摘要： Process for preparing a composition for the surface of roads, airport runways, canals, dams and the like surfaces, comprising mineral granulates coated with 4-12% by weight with respect to the weight of the granulates, of a binder consisting essentially of 93-96% by weight of fluxed coal pitch or fluxed coal tar and 4-7% by weight of a polymer or copolymer of vinyl chloride. The polymer or copolymer is first mixed rapidly in a mixer in the form of a powder with the granulates previously heated to a temperature of 120.degree.-160.degree.C and the binder is thereafter introduced in the mixer in contact with the mixture thus obtained and the mixing of the composition is terminated in the conventional manner.

摘要： Granular mineral components and bituminous binder components are mixed in a rotating drum by means of longitudinally extending chains which rotate along with the drum and which repeatedly lift the materials to be mixed and drop these materials again downstream of the preceding lifting point and which chains on their returning leg in each revolution provide a self cleaning action by contacting the inner surface of the drum. The apparatus for performing this method comprises a plurality of chains extending longitudinally within the drum and connected thereto by means which permit an adjustment of the slack in the chains. Preferably, the links of the chains are plates which are hinged to each other and which are adjustable in their angular position relative to a radial plane of the drum.

摘要： Diatomite-modified membrane and slurry seal mixes having improved properties. An impermeable membrane suitable for protecting cement bridge decks and roadways has from 9 to 14% by weight asphalt, 0.5 to 3.0% diatomite with a preferred diatomite/asphalt ratio in the range of 0.08 to 0.30, with the balance being fine aggregate (sand). This membrane can be placed by conventional paving equipment, can withstand temporary traffic loading prior to installation of a wearing course, can be preformulated in sheets, and is a crack resistant (i.e., self-healing) under normal traffic loads. Also disclosed is a slurry seal cold mix with improved abrasion resistance, adhesion/cohesion, and tensile strength. With these improved characteristics, slurry seals can be useful as bridge deck and roadway membranes in addition to its standard overlay uses.
