摘要： A water activated adhesive system is described that is particularly suited for applying non-paper polymeric labels to surfaces which have low moisture permeability. The adhesive system is characterized by a dry non-tacky surface that becomes tacky in less than one second when contacted with a water-based activator. While it is a water activated adhesive, it is also characterized after aging bonded to a substrate by resistance to adhesive failure during 72 hours of immersion in ice/water mixture. The adhesive is beneficial to allow use of existing paper labeling equipment with polymeric labels.

摘要： The present invention relates to an adhesive containing a primary water soluble adhesive agent, an adhesion promoter for providing initial tack to composition, and a water soluble polymer comprising an imine compound in an amount sufficient to provide adhesion to polymeric films and preferential anchorage of such films to a substrate. The primary adhesive agent is generally present in the amount of about 2 to 60% by weight, the adhesion promoter is generally present in an amount of about 5 to 30% by weight and the imine compound is generally present in the amount of about 0.1 to 7% by weight of the adhesive, with the balance being water. The adhesive include one or more of the following optional components: a primary chelating agent in an amount of about 0.5 to 6% by weight, a thinning agent in an amount of up to about 1% by weight, or a secondary chelating agent, a wetting agent, or a humectant, each in an amount of up to about 3% by weight of the adhesive. Also, the invention relates to a method of making the adhesive, the adhesive produced by the method and articles such as package sealing tapes having a substrate such as a plastic film with one of the adhesives described above provided on at least a portion and preferably substantially all of one surface of the plastic film.

摘要： Fluid activatable adhesive labels, label systems, and methods of making and using thereof are described herein. These labels are particularly useful with facesheets with low MVTR due to the inclusion and placement of sequestration components within the labels. The sequestration components are either embedded in an adhesive layer, in a separate tie-layer between the adhesive layer and the substrate, incorporated in the substrate, or incorporated into the adherend. Preferably the labels are clear. Following application of an activation fluid and, preferably following activation of the activatable adhesive layer, the sequestration materials adsorb the fluid from the polymer adhesive components over time, such as for about 0 to 72 hours This dries the label and wets the sequestration components. Optionally, the container with the label is also subjected to a drying step to dry the sequestration components.
