    • The upper end of a cylinder (8) located in a mouth (3) of a bottle (2) abuts the top plate (5b) of a seal cap (5). The cylinder (8) has formed in the outer surface thereof a circumferential recess (10) normally sealed by a sealing member (9). The bottle (2) contains hydrochloric acid (second component) of a diluted concentration, while the circumferential recess (10) in the cylinder (8) contains sodium hypochlorite as a first component. When a user removes a stopper ring (6) and next turns the seal cap (5) in the tightening direction, the circumferential recess (10) moves to and below the sealing member (9) and permits the first component to flow into the bottle (2) and mix with the second component. As a result, sterile water of a pH level within the slightly acidic or neutral region is produced. Then, the user can use the prepared sterile water for sterilization by hypochlorous acid.

    • Described herein is a physiologically-balanced, acidic solution. Typically the solution is prepared by a chemical reactions or by the electrolysis of a solution comprising a mixture of an inorganic salt to form a physiologically balanced solution. This invention also relates to methods for use of the solutions, including a specialized bandage which may be used in combination with the solutions, or optionally with other topically applied materials. A mixture of inorganic salts and, optionally minerals, is used in order to mimic the electrolyte concentration and mixture of body fluid in an isotonic state. The solution typically comprises of one halide salt of lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, and other cations. Typically the halide is fluoride, chloride, bromide, or iodide, and most typically chloride. A typical electrolyzed solution of the present invention has a pH within the range of about 2 to about 5, an oxidation reduction potential within the range of about null600 mV to about null1200 mV, and hypohalous acid concentration in the range of about 10 ppm to about 200 ppm. The solution has bactericidal, fungicidal, and sporicidal properties. The composition of the invention is nontoxic and has antibacterial properties, and is useful in any application in which antimicrobial properties are desirable.

    • A continuous system, process and associated apparatus are disclosed for reacting a gas with a liquid to manufacture a gaseous or liquid product. The preferred system comprises a reactive gas, such as chlorine and an aqueous solution, such as caustic soda, which are continuously combined and reacted under largely superatmospheric pressure and in turbulent cocurrent flow in very compact reactor equipment. Liquid bleach solutions such as aqueous solutions of hypochlorites or hypochlorous acid are among the products of major interest. The main reactor equipment consists of a fluid pressure energized, in-line mixing device followed by a low slip (closely fitted) regenerative turbine pumping unit. The fluid ports in the closely fitted stator elements of said pumping unit should have a radial dimension equal to at least about half that of the vanes. In a liquid ring compressor these ports are located adjacent the lower parts of said vanes while in a turbine pump they are generally adjacent the mid portion of said vanes.

    • Solutions of hypochlorous acid (HOCl), free chloride and chlorine are prepared by extraction of aqueous chlorination mixtures containing HOCl and chloride using an extraction solvent selected from the group consisting of lower alkyl ketones, lower alkyl cyanides and lower alkyl esters of lower alkanoic acids. The lower alkyl suitably contains one to five carbon atoms and the lower alkanoic acids suitably contain one to five carbon atoms. The resulting solutions, containing from about 0.5 to about 50 percent by weight of HOCl, are useful for chlorohydrination reactions where the presence of chloride or chlorine is deleterious.
