    • A device for pneumatically conveying and guiding a multifilament thread has a closed conveying channel which has a thread inlet opening at one end and a thread outlet opening at the opposite end. An injector zone having at least one compressed air channel which opens into the conveying channel is formed between the thread inlet opening and the thread outlet opening, wherein the compressed air channel can be connected to a compressed air source. In order to avoid blowing air from flowing back from the injector zone at the thread inlet opening, a return flow channel is formed in a channel section of the conveying channel between the thread inlet opening and the opening of the compressed air channel, which return flow channel connects the conveying channel to ambient atmosphere.

    • A monofilament line cutting tool is formed by sandwiching a cutting blade between first and second plastic sheets which are thermally bonded to one another. A monofilament line receiving slot in the plastic sheets extends to the blade whereby monofilament line bent into a U-shape may be placed in contact with the blade cutting edge. The plastic sheets are part of spool forming plastic sheet portions which are thermally bonded to one another and shaped into a spool. The plastic sheets forming the tool are selectively pivotable about a live hinge relative to the spool. The plastic sheets can be separated from one another for forming: a sphere generally around the cutting edge; a pair of elongate barrels extending parallel along each side of the monofilament line receiving slot and adjacent the cutting edge; or, a monofilament line receiving cavity extending to the blade cutting edge.

    • An improved process for winding an elastic fiber onto a core for forming a package and/or warp beam for use in knitting or weaving operations is disclosed. The improvement comprises forming the elastic fiber into a shape having a fiber cross section such that the width of the fiber is at least three times the thickness of the fiber prior to winding the fiber onto the supply package. Another aspect of the invention involves forming elastic fiber using a extrusion melt spinning process with a die having one or more openings which have two generally perpendicular axes, wherein one axis is at least about 1.5, preferably at least about 3 times longer than the other axis. The fiber of the present invention having the elongated cross section can be used to make improved supply packages for knitting or weaving fabric and also for making improved nonwoven structures and improved binder fibers.

    • The present invention provides a polyester-based conjugate fiber pirn that is formed by winding, in a pirn shape, a conjugate fiber wherein the fiber is formed from a single filament prepared by combining two types of polyester components in a side-by-side manner or in an eccentric sheath-core manner, and at least one polyester component forming the single filament is a poly(trimethylene terephthalate) containing 90% by mole or more of trimethylene terephthalate repeating units, the winding amount of the conjugate fiber pirn being 1 kg or more, the winding angle in a taper portion thereof being from 15 to 21°, the winding hardness in the cylinder portion thereof being from 75 to 92, and the starting temperature of thermal shrinkage stress manifestation of the conjugate fiber being from 50 to 80° C.
