O "spreader" automático tem dois cabos móveis (8) e (9), que abaixam e sobem as caixas e de dois cabos (14) e (15), que servem para tracionar as extremidades destas caixas durante sua descida e que abrem as duas caixas, conforme a figura 6. O fechamento se da na subida das caixas. Existem também tampas 4 e 5. O equipamento apresenta vantagens em seu uso tais como rapidez de operação, não há necessidade de operador dentro do porão do navio, pois a operação de abertura e fechamento das caixas é feita por acionamento de sistema de abaixamento ou subida das caixas através do "spreader" automático, que pode ser acionado a distância, com o uso de botões.
