摘要： An adjustable frame for carrying vehicles between elongate upright sides includes, on each side, a forward end and a rearward end, each end including an upper and lower rail section joined by elongate brace members, where the respective ends are separated from one another and a length-adjusting insert is carried between such ends to selectively permit adjustment of the position of the forward end relative to the rearward end while maintaining the ends in end-to-end alignment. On each side of the frame, preferably at least one of the upper rail sections has an end portion defining an open-ended hollow tube extending lengthwise of that side within which an elongate arm of the length-adjusting insert is slidably moveable so that structures on the outside surfaces of the rail sections will not interfere with length adjustment. Preferably, on each side, the upper and lower rail sections of the respective ends together define longitudinally aligned upper and lower pairs of open-ended tubes in which are slidably received an upper and lower pair of arms of the length-adjusting insert, thereby permitting the insert to remain permanently in position on each side regardless of the length selected. Preferably, also, the forward and rearward ends of the frame are lockable to the arms of the insert while keeping the insert centered longitudinally with respect to each side.

摘要： A method and apparatus are disclosed for loading a container with cars. A car loading apparatus includes a box shaped frame having a rectangular base frame, side frames, end frames and a top frame. It is assembled outside the container. Two cars are loaded onto the frame in two tiers, one on the base frame and the other on the top frame. The upper car is lashed to the frame to compress its suspension springs to such an extent that its top is lower than the upper frame of the entrance of the container. Rollers are mounted on the bottom of the box frame so that the frame thus loaded with two cars can be pushed into the container with human hands. Alternatively, the car-loading frame may be formed of a rectangular base frame and two gate-shaped gantry frames fixedly or removably mounted on the base frame.

The enclosures, with their frames and vehicles inside, are loaded onto the transporting vehicle by compactly stacking the enclosures one atop the other in weather-exposed postions, the enclosures nevertheless serving to protect the vehicles from external hazards.

摘要： A system and apparatus is described for loading and carrying automobiles as cargo in a standardized, enclosed, dry-freight intermodal shipping container. The apparatus is provided in the form of a kit of assemblable components for manual installation in such container and for complete removal therefrom without use of tools, by which a track deck is erected using crossbeams supported between opposed mounting tracks provided by conventional slotted sideposts along the interior sidewalls of the container, and track sections mounted, and retained by removable pins on such crossbeams. Automobiles are driven on to such track deck via a ramp extending from the loading dock to the track deck, which ramp may also be included in the kit. The cars are tied down against vertical or longitudinal movement on the tracks by nylon take-up straps extending from the cars to the sidepost mounting tracks. Automobiles are also carried below such track deck, on the container floor, additional crossbeams with specially adapted wheel chocking plates mounted thereon being also furnished as part of the kit for securing these cars against longitudinal and lateral movement on the container floor.
