    • An aerator (10) is disclosed which includes a hollow outer tube (12) and a hollow inner tube (14) rotatably supported therein. The inner tube is drivingly connected to a drive shaft (28) of the motor (18). A mounting flange (34) extends from a first end (36) of the outer tube and a mounting bracket (30) is interposed between the mounting flange and the motor. The mounting bracket and mounting flange are removably attached to the motor. A bearing mechanism which includes a bearing (44) and a ceramic wear sleeve (46) rotatably support a second end (40) of the inner tube adjacent the second end (42) of the outer tube. A propeller (20) is attached to the second end of the inner tube and has a pitch which is sufficiently high to move liquid past it at a velocity wherein cavitation of the liquid above the propeller is prevented at a preselected operating rotational speed.

    • An aerator apparatus for use in waste treatment plants and the like for imparting oxygen to the waste water forced through the apparatus by an axial flow impeller. The entire apparatus may be submerged, resting on the bottom of the body of water and has an intake area for directing water from the bottom of the body of water through the apparatus. The water is forced into a discharge chamber where it is aerated and agitated by a compressed oxidizing gas, such as air, through an array of ports surrounding the discharge chamber. From the discharge chamber the aerated water is directed out of the apparatus on a generally horizontal plane into the surrounding body of water. In one embodiment, the flow of water may be drawn from a certain direction and discharged in the same or opposite direction, as desired, to maintain a flow or current pattern in conjunction with a plurality of like aerators.

    • The invention relates to a stirring device for activated sludges comprising a stirring body (2) attached to a shaft (1) and having a hyperboloid wall (3), further comprising an air supply line (5, 8) for supplying air to a funnel-like recess (6) formed on a bottom of the stirring body (2). In order to improve the entry of air into the fluid medium surrounding the stirring body (2), the invention provides for an opening of the recess (6) formed on the bottom be covered with a covering element (7) such that an annular gap (10) having a predetermined width remains uncovered between an outer circumferential surface (9) of the stirring body (2) and the covering element (7) and for the air supply line (8) to be guided coaxially through the cover element (7) relative to the shaft (1).
