    • 1443062 Triiodo - aminobenzenecarboxylic acid derivatives CHEMIE LINZ AG 12 July 1973 [21 July 1972] 33382/73 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel compounds of the Formula I wherein A is hydrogen, carboxyl or -CONR 1 R 2 ; R 1 is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl, C 2-6 alkoxyalkyl, benzyl or phenyl; R 2 is C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl, or -R 6 -COOH or R 1 and R 2 together with the nitrogen atom form morpholino, piperidino or pyrrolidino; R 3 is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkylene carboxylic acid; wherein one of A, R 2 or R 3 is a carboxyl group of a substituent containing a carboxyl group, R 4 is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl; R 5 is C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl, C 2-6 alkoxyalkyl, benzyl or phenyl or R 4 and R 5 together with the nitrogen atom form pyrrolidino, piperidino or morpholino; and R 6 is C 1-5 alkylene, and lower alkyl esters or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof may be prepared by reacting a compound of the Formula II with a compound of the Formula III wherein in II, Y is halogen or -NR 1 R 8 , A 1 is hydrogen, carboxyl, carboxyl esterified with lower alkyl alcohol, carboxylic halide or in which R 8 is C 1-4 alkyl or C 2-4 alkenyl or -R 6 COOH or -R 6 COO lower alkyl or R 8 together with R 1 and the nitrogen is a morpholino, pyrrolidino or piperidino and in II and III one of X 1 and X 11 is hydrogen and the other is -COR 9 , where R 9 is hydrogen, C 1-4 alkyl, C 2-4 alkylenecarboxylic acid or a lower alkyl ester thereof, wherein one of A 1 , R 8 or R 9 is a carboxyl group or a substituent containing a carboxyl group in the presence of at least one mole of a halide of pentavalent phosphorus and when there is an acid chloride group in the product at COY or A 1 , reacting the resulting acid chloride with a compound of the Formula IV followed optionally by saponification of ester groups and interconverting free acids and bases with salts.
