    • A capacity monitor for diapers (10) and the like, including super absorbent material disposed in or adjacent to an absorbent core (16) is disclosed. The monitor (20) comprises an indicator (24) and a baffle (22) to prevent direct contact between the absorbent core and the indicator. The indicator (24) is preferably a ribbon of hot melt adhesive with a wetness indicator which changes color when exposed to liquid. The baffle (22) is a substantially water impervious sheet positioned between the absorbent core (16) and the indicator (24) so as to prevent direct contact between them. The diaper (10) and the monitor (20) are constructed so that there is a threshold level of liquid which, when deposited in the diaper, will effect a color change in the indicator (24). A quantity of liquid which is below the threshold will not effect a color change in the indicator (24) and a quantity of liquid which is above the threshold will effect a color change in the indicator (24).

    • An electronic wetness-sensing absorbent article (10) and related methods are disclosed. The electronic wetness-sensing absorbent article (10) includes a flexible waterproof thin film (11); at least two mutually separated and insulated flexible electrodes (12) disposed on one surface of the flexible waterproof thin film (11); a water-permeable braided fabric layer (18); and an absorbent layer (15) disposed on the other surface of the flexible waterproof thin film (11), the absorbent layer (15) is located between the flexible waterproof thin film (11) and the water-permeable braided fabric layer (18), and adapted to absorb the liquid entering from the water-permeable braided fabric layer (18). The flexible waterproof thin film (11), the flexible electrodes (12), and the liquid contained in the absorbent layer (15) form a non-polar variable electrolytic capacitor. The wetness state of the electronic wetness-sensing absorbent article (10) is obtained by detecting the capacitance value of the variable electrolytic capacitor and change thereof.
