    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polluted water cleaning apparatus wherein not only cleaning efficiency is enhanced but also control is facilitated by separating a polluted water cleaning system and a culture system of nitrifying or denitrifying bacteria.
      SOLUTION: Bacteria carriers having nitrifying bacteria and denitrifying bacteria respectively adsorbed thereon separately at a high density are moved by the bacteria carrier feed means provided between a septic tank and a high density culture liquid tank of those bacteria independent from the polluted water system thereof and the contact of a nitrogen compound contained in the septic tank with those bacteria is achieved while the bacteria adsorption density at a time when the bacteria carriers are immersed in the septic tank is held to as high a density as possible to decompose and remove the nitrogen compound. A fiber or a resin sheet is used as the substrate of the bacteria carriers and the bacteria carriers are provided in polluted water under tension so as to be movable to a predetermined position in the septic tank. The endless bacteria carriers are continuously circulated to bring the nitrogen compound contained in the polluted water into contact with bacteria adsorbed on the bacteria carriers to decompose and remove the nitrogen compound. The bacteria carriers are immersed in the culture liquid tank wherein the nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria adsorbed on the bacteria carriers are cultured at a high density of not less than 10
