摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device to monitor elevator cars in rising and falling and stop them in case of emergency. SOLUTION: The motion of each elevator car 1 is transmitted to an over- speed governor 5 through a governor rope 6. The ends of the rope 6 are attached to a tripping lever 8 attached to the car 1 rotatably and actuating a safety device 9 mounted on the car 1 in case of emergency. An arm 11, a spring thrust plate 12, and a correction spring 13 constitute a resilient rope linkage so that it is possible to absorb rope elongations of different size between a suspension rope 3 and the governor rope 6. If over-speed of the car 1 occurs in the rising direction, a tripping mechanism 14 of the over-speed governor 5 actuates a rope brake 15.

SOLUTION: In this rope structure, at least two strand layers 7 and 14 are twisted in the opposite directions, and thereby the twistings existing inside the strand layers 7 and 14 are compensated with each other due to the twistings of the layers. When a rope 1 is running during operation with a load, and the strand layers 7 and 14 are unevenly weakened due to abrasion or external world's influence, the rope starts to twist around the longitudinal shaft 20. The twist of the rope 1 can be visually detected by various means. For example, a mark 11 placed along the longitudinal direction of the rope exhibits the twist, and thereby the necessity of the exchanging can be visually distinguished.

Thus, a start with no abrupt acceleration can be made while substantially no endeavor is required for the drive adjustment. Further, since no additional hardware such as a load measuring device is required for the elevator cage 5, the cost can be remarkably reduce. Moreover, the construction of an elevator mechanism can be simplified, and accordingly, no more modification of a cage, which is expensive, is required during updating of the elevator.
