    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bone plate workable to at least reduce, preferably to eliminate a refracture of bone.
      SOLUTION: A bone plate includes at least one torsional correction feature (TMF). Each TMF is structured to decrease the torsional rigidity of the bone plate relative to longitudinally opposite portions, but may be corrected to increase the torsional rigidity thereat. Each TMF is defined by a plurality beams contiguous with the lateral sides of the plate, and an opening extending laterally between them. In a suitable embodiment, a plurality of opposed projections extend into the opening to define threaded discontinuous wall portions for receiving an insert, such as a set screw. In one embodiment, bioabsorbable and/or bioactive inserts may be used to increase the torsional rigidity of the bone plate temporarily during initial fixation and thereafter have reduced torsional rigidity to mimic normal callus.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medical implant or a medical implant part such as a support material, having a reduced wear rate, by solving the problem that although the medical implant uses polymer material such as ultrahigh molecular weight polymer polyethylene (UHMWPE) as a support material connected to a hard counterface of the implant, it has a tendency to wear away during use and generate wearing residue of fine grains, consequently causing a harmful reaction. SOLUTION: The support material for medical implant includes polymer such as UHMWPE and a surface active agent not covalent bonded to the polymer. The support material has a reduced wear rate. Further, the method reduces the wear rate of polymer support material of the medical implant in the case where the polymer support material of the medical implant is connected to a hard counterface in the presence of synovial fluid, and the method includes a step of providing a surface active agent in the synovial fluid in close proximity to the support surface, the hard couterface, or both.
