    • Systems and methods are disclosed for using multiple configuration groups having corresponding configuration identity (CID) parameters to configure a transmission channel and a reception channel for a user equipment device in a cellular communication network. In one embodiment, a user equipment device in a cellular communication network obtains CID values for CID parameters for a number of configuration groups. Each of the configuration groups includes one or more transmission channel or reception channel parameters. For each of the configuration groups, the user equipment device configures the parameters in the configuration group based on the CID value obtained for the CID parameter for the configuration group. In this manner, the transmission channel and the reception channel for the user equipment device are configured based on multiple CID values rather than a single physical layer cell identifier for a cell in which the user equipment device is located.

    • A method in a radio base station for transforming a data transmission signal in a radio communications network. The radio base station is connected to an active antenna array of a first number of active transmitting antennas, which each active transmitting antenna comprises sub elements. The radio base station comprises a precoder codebook comprising precoders for transmitting signals in a diversified manner for a second number of antenna ports. The radio base station precodes the data transmission signal with a precoder selected from the precoder codebook. The radio base station furthermore transforms, linearly, the precoded data transmission signal by neutralizing a direction of the precoded data transmission signal and then directing the precoded data transmission signal vertically. The precoded data transmission signal is thereby enabled to be vertically adjusted towards a user equipment in the radio communications network.

    • Techniques are disclosed for signaling a pattern of cyclic shifts and orthogonal cover codes for use by a wireless device in multi-layer transmissions. In one example method, a signal includes B bits for identifying a reference signal is received, wherein each of several available reference signals is defined by a cyclic shift and an orthogonal cover code. The B bits are used to identify the cyclic shift and orthogonal cover code according to pre-determined tables that map each value of the B bits to a pattern of cyclic shift and orthogonal cover code combinations for a multi-layer transmission scheme. The patterns for the multi-layer transmission scheme include first and second patterns based on the same cyclic shifts, but where some, but not all, of the cyclic shifts in the first pattern are associated with the same corresponding orthogonal cover codes in the second pattern.

    • Channel quality metrics (such as SINR, BLER, and the like) are derived from a raw bit error rate (RBER), defined as the error rate of raw bits output by a demodulator. These initial raw bits are decoded and error-checked (or error-corrected). The error-free decoded bits are re-encoded, and the regenerated raw bits are compared to the initial raw bits to determine the RBER. The RBER is then converted to SINR, BLER, or other channel quality metric. The RBER-based metrics are derived from a data channel rather than reference signals, and hence more accurately reflect deviations from nominal transmission power level, and include receiver demodulator impairments.

    • The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for multi-stream wireless communication between a transmitter node and a receiver node. The method comprises applying an open-loop multi-stream transmission technique during an initial part of a transmission burst. In another step of the method, detailed channel state information is received (54). The detailed channel state information indicates transmission pre-coding to be used during the transmission burst when applying a closed-loop multi-stream transmission technique. The method further includes switching (55) from the open-loop multi-stream transmission technique to the closed-loop multi-stream transmission technique during the transmission burst, in response to receiving the detailed channel state information. The method is applicable to both uplink and downlink transmission bursts.
