    • In an information recording/reproducing apparatus constructed of: a buffer for storing therein consecutive recording data in a unit of two dimensional conversion; a coding device for converting the consecutive recording data into a two-dimensional data arrangement arranged by "n" lines and "m" columns corresponding to said unit of data; a recording device for subdividing said two-dimensional data arrangement arranged by "n" lines and "m" columns so as to be read out, and for controlling "m" pieces of light sources in accordance with these data series; and an optical apparatus for converging luminous fluxes from said "m" pieces of light sources so as to form "m" pieces of spots on a disk plane, the recording data is recorded on the disk plane as an optically distringuishable pit group having two-dimensionally extended areas arranged by "n" lines and "m" columns. During a reproducing operation, the reflected light is detected by "m" pieces of detectors; "m" columns of one-dimensional data series are generated from the reflected light detected by these detectors in a generator; and also consecutive data is reproduced from the two dimensional data arranged by "n" lines and "m" columns in a decoder.

    • In optically coupling a plurality of light sources to an optical system for focusing light beams from the light sources into spots on a record plane, a center axis of a light beam from a first one of the light sources is aligned to an optical axis of the focusing optical system, and the spots other than a first spot formed by the light beam from the first light source are rotated around the first spot on the record plane to position the spots to the respective target tracks, and a tracking error signal for at least one of the first spot and another spot is detected and the positions of the plurality of spots are integrally controlled based on the detected tracking error signal so that the plurality of spots can follow the respective target tracks. The target tracks to which the spots are to be positioned may be either one track or different tracks. The positioning of the spots to the target tracks may be done either manually or automatically. In the automatic method, a tracking error signal is detected for the first spot, and a deflection mechanism for radially swinging beams from the laser light sources is controlled to control the positions of the spots on the record plane and to cause the first spot to follow the target track.

    • In a light spot control signal generating device, a light spot is irradiated on a recording medium having tracks on which information is recorded. In order to jump the light spot from a track being scanned thereby to an adjacent track, a signal representative of light quantity of reflection or transmission of the light spot and a track error signal are detected. The two signals are used to judge whether the light spot has passed through an edge of the track. The track error signal is also used to detect a signal representative of an instant at which the light spot is present at the middle point between adjacent tracks, and this signal is used as a timing signal for changing the polarity of a control signal applied to a spot light deflector.
