    • PURPOSE:To improve the abrasion resistance and aluminum adhesion resistance of a piston ring groove section by using an Al-Si alloy for a piston base material, casting the piston groove section with a low-Si Al-Mg alloy, and forming an alumite layer on at least upper and lower faces of the inside of the groove section. CONSTITUTION:A piston base material 1 is formed with an Al-Si based aluminum alloy casting. The inner periphery of a top ring groove section 6 receiving a compression ring is constituted with a cast material 10 made of a low-Si high-strength Al-Mg based aluminum alloy expanded material containing Si 0.4 wt.% or below. An alumite layer 11 processed with positive electrode oxidation is formed on the upper face 6A, lower face 6B and inner rear face 6C of the groove section 6. The abrasion resistance of the piston ring groove section is remarkably improved as compared with that not using the cast material, and the aluminum adhesion resistance is sharply improved.
