    • A case for holding a contactless smart card includes a set of plastic walls for defining a generally planar space. The space may be for housing one smart card or alternatively may be for housing two smart cards. The walls include two parallel walls which each have a planar extent that corresponds to a planar extent of the generally planar space. The two parallel walls include a first wall and a second wall. The first wall has an actuation region formed therein to permit a user's finger to actuate, through the first wall, a switch on the smart card. If the case is for holding two cards, then there is also an actuation region in the second wall. In some embodiments, the case may include additional spaces each for housing one or two cards.

    • In accordance with some embodiments, an apparatus includes: a support structure; a storage circuit mounted in or on the support structure, the storage circuit for storing data; an antenna mounted in or on the support structure and coupled to the storage circuit for selectively transmitting the data; a switch mounted in or on the support structure, the switch being for initiating a time period in which the apparatus is enabled; and a timing circuit mounted in or on the support structure, the timing circuit being responsive to the switch for setting an end point to the time period; wherein the apparatus is operative to perform data exchange with a reader via the antenna only during the time period. In accordance with some embodiments, a method of operating an identification token includes detecting actuation of a switch on the identification token; in response to the detected actuation of the switch: enabling the identification token; and initiating a time period; determining an end point of the time period; and disabling the identification token if the end point of the time period is reached.

    • In some embodiments, an identification token assembly includes: a card-shaped plastic body having a first edge and a second edge, said plastic body having a scored line formed therein, the plastic body including a subcard body extending from the first edge of the plastic body to the second edge of the plastic body, the scored line adapted to allow the subcard body to be manually snapped off from the plastic body; a radio frequency identification (RFID) integrated circuit (IC) supported by the subcard body; and an antenna supported by the subcard body and coupled to the RFID IC to transmit a signal generated by the RFID IC. In some embodiments, a kit includes: a first assembly including an identification token assembly; and a second assembly including: a body; a holder releasably attached to the body, the holder including a seat adapted to receive the subcard body after the subcard body is snapped off from the plastic body. In some embodiments, an assembly includes: a generally flat body; a carrier attached to the generally flat body, the carrier defining a seat; and a holder releasably received in the seat of the carrier, the holder defining a seat to receive an identification token. In some embodiments, a method includes: providing a card-shaped plastic body having a first edge and a second edge; scoring said plastic body from the first edge of the plastic body to the second edge of the plastic body to define a subcard body extending from the first edge of the plastic body to the second edge of the plastic body, the scored line adapted to allow the subcard body to be manually snapped off from the plastic body; supporting a radio frequency identification (RFID) integrated circuit (IC) and an antenna with the subcard body; and coupling the antenna to the RFID IC.

    • An identification token is provided which includes a radio frequency identification (RFID) integrated circuit (IC), an antenna and a switch. The switch is normally in a first state and is actuatable by a user's finger to a second state different from the first state. The identification token includes a conductive connection connected to at least one of the RFID IC and the antenna. The identification token is enabled to send and receive signals so long as the conductive connection is unbroken. The identification token is subjected to a personalization process and the conductive connection is broken after or during the personalization process. After the conductive connection is broken, the switch operates to switch the identification token between operative and in operative states. Before the conductive connection is broken, the switch is actuatable but actuating the switch does not change the state of the identification token.
