摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably produce an optical fiber cord having a cross sectional shape of a rectangular shape over a long length. SOLUTION: The viscosity of a resin liquid at the time of coating thereof is specified to 6000 to 8000 cPs at the time of producing the optical fiber cord 4 by placing plural pieces of tension members 2, 2... longitudinally along an optical fiber 1, feeding this optical fiber into a die and applying the resin liquid constituting a coating layer 3 on the fiber in this die, then curing the resin liquid. The adjustment of the viscosity may be executed by the kind, compsn., temp., etc., of the resin liquid. A method of changing the temp. of the resin liquid is usually adopted. If the viscosity of the resin liquid at the time of coating is below 6000 cPs, the cross sectional shape of the resulted optical fiber cord is made elliptic, providing inconvenience. When the viscosity exceeds 8000 cPs, the inclusion of air bubbles into the resin liquid and the flow defect thereof occur, providing inconvenience.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit the production of an optical tape while the alignment state of optical fiber cords is correctly maintained by disposing a magnet plate in front of a coating die and aligning the arrays of plural pieces of the optical fiber cords on the magnet plate. SOLUTION: The magnet plate 9 is disposed before the upstream side of the inlet part of the coating die. When plural pieces of the optical fiber cords 5 are introduced to the magnet plate 9, tension wires 2, 2... are attracted onto the one surface of the magnet plate 9 and the tension members 3 are arrayed in parallel on the magnet plate 9. The optical fiber cords 5, 5... aligned with the arrays of the tension members 3 in this way are fed from the inlet part of the die and a uncured resin liquid constituting a taping layer is supplied from a resin liquid supply hole into the die. The cords 5, 5 which are coated with the resin liquid constituting the taping layer and are aligned to the tape form are led out of the exit part and are sent into a curing device, such as heating furnace or UV irradiation device where the applied resin liquid is cured and the optical tape cord is obtd.

The alignment interval of the assembled optical fibers 11 are preferably so set as to be the same as the alignment interval of the optical fibers 11 in the coated optical fiber ribbon to be connected thereto and the number of the cores of the assembled optical fibers 11 is preferably so set as to be the same as the number of the cores of the optical fibers 11 in this optical fiber ribbon. The arrangement to line up all the optical fibers 11 in one row is more preferable.

摘要： PURPOSE:To restore the refractive index of the worked layer of an optical fiber end face to an intrinsic value of the optical fibers without executing diagonal polishing and to substantially eliminate reflection at the joint surfaces of optical fibers by locally and rapidly heating only the part of the optical fiber cores to affect a light transmission characteristic at the optical fiber end face after polishing by using a carbon dioxide laser. CONSTITUTION:A shutter 5 is first closed and in this state, the carbon dioxide laser 1 is kept operated. After the end faces of a connector ferrule 6 subjected to PC polishing or APC polishing are washed together with the optical fibers 7-1, 7-2, the connector ferrule 6 is mounted at a connector ferrule holder 8. The shutter 5 is thereafter opened for the specified period of time under the operating state of the carbon dioxide laser 1 and the core part of the end face of the optical fiber 7-1 is irradiated with the laser beam 2. As a result, the core part at the end face of the optical fiber 7-1 is temporarily softened and the intrinsic properties of the optical fibers are restored after the core part is cooled again.
