    • An infrared-sensitive image forming material with which a plate can be directly formed by an infrared laser. The infrared-sensitive image forming material has a support having disposed thereon a recording layer whose solubility in an aqueous alkaline solution is altered by irradiation with an infrared laser. The recording layer has a binder phase formed of a polymer compound, a dispersion phase that is dispersed in the binder phase, and an infrared absorbent present in either one of the binder phase and the dispersion phase. Within a total incorporated amount of the infrared absorbent in the recording layer, a mass present in the dispersion binder is greater than a mass present in the binder phase. Namely, within the recording layer, the infrared absorbent is localized in the dispersion phase.

    • There is provided a negative type image recording material that allows direct-plate making from digital data using an infrared laser and a method of plate-making using this negative type image recording material. The negative type image recording material comprises a compound (A) which is cross-linked with the aid of an acid, a binder polymer (B), a compound (C) which generates an acid upon heating, and (D) an infrared ray absorbing agent. The compound (A) which is cross-linked with the aid of an acid is a mixture of a lower molecular weight phenol derivative represented by the following general formula (I) with a polynuclear phenol cross-linking agent and/or resol resin. In the formula, Ar1 represents an aromatic hydrocarbon ring, R1, R2 and R3 represent a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon group having 12 or less carbon atoms, respectively, m represents an integer of 2 to 4, and n represents an integer of 1 to 3. X represents a divalent connecting group, Y represents a monovalent, divalent, trivalent or tetravalent connecting group or a functional group having a terminal hydrogen atom, manifesting interaction with a cross-linking agent having a specific structure.

    • A process for producing a cured coating is provided that includes a step of forming on a substrate layer of a curable composition that includes at least one compound represented by Formula (I) and a step of curing the layer of the curable composition by irradiation with electron beam. In formula (I) , Q1 denoted a cyano group or a —COX2 group, X1 denoted a hydrogen atom, organic residue, or polymer chain bonded to carbon atom CA via a heteroatom, or a halogen atom, X2 denoted a hydrogen atom, organic residue, or polymer chain boned to the carbonyl group via a heteroatom, or a halogen atom, Ra and Rb independently denote a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a cyano group, or an organic residue, and X1 and X2, Ra and Rb, and X1 and Ra or Rb may be bonded to each other to form a cyclic structure. There is also provided an electron beam-curable composition that includes a compound represented by Formula (I).
