摘要： A stereo imaging and viewing system for a borescope or endoscope employs a miniature camera assembly in which are disposed a CCD imager or equivalent imager, a wide-angle focusing lens assembly with an effective aperture on the order of about f/2 or wider, and an aperture plate interposed in the optical path of the camera and adjacent the lens assembly. The aperture plate has left and right pupils therein situated on opposite sides of the optic axis of the lens assembly. The pupils are separated from one another by a predetermined pupil distance that is somewhat smaller than the lens diameter. The left image passes through the left pupil and is focused through a corresponding portion of the lens assembly onto the image plane of the imager and a right image passes through the right pupil and is focused by a corresponding portion of the lens assembly onto the image plane of the imager. A selective mechanism, such as alternate shutters or distinct color filters, separate the left and right views of the target sequentially. Left and right views are then presented to a display device for viewing the left and right views stereoscopically.

A fluid conduit supplies hydraulic or pneumatic pressure to the bladder to expand it and thereby shorten the braid. When pressure is relieved, the braid is permitted to elongate, and the bladder constricts radially. To ensure that the bladder has its cross section at a minimum when elongated, the bladder has a fold or invagination along its length. The process for forming this bladder can employ a fixture in the form of a threaded rod.

摘要： A fluid dynamic muscle contracts when air or hydraulic pressure is applied to it. The muscle has a long elastomeric bladder covered by a long tubular braid of flexible but inextensible fibers or filaments. When the bladder is inflated the braid is forced to expand laterally, which shortens it axially when the pressure is relieved, the muscle will relax allowing a pulling force on a tendon connected to a termination on its distal end to stretch it back to its original length. These fluid dynamic muscles can be used for bending the articulation section of a borescope or endoscope.

摘要： Two stereo images are created by splitting a single image into two images using a field of view dividing splitter. The two images can be displayed side by side so that they can be viewed directly using stereopticon technology, heads-up display, or other 3-D display technology, or they can be separated for individual eye viewing. The two images focus on one imager such that the right image appears on the right side of the monitor and the left image appears on the left side of the monitor. The view of the images is aimed to converge at a given object distance such that the views overlap 100% at the object distance. Measurement is done with at least one onscreen cursor.
