摘要： A printhead compatible with various printers, e.g. a printer having low print density or a printer having high print density, enables printing in the best capability of the printer. The printhead comprises: a determination circuit 24 which determines a type of a printer incorporating the printhead, and switches SW1 and SW2 which select a method of driving the printhead according to in the printer, on the basis of the determination result by the determination circuit 24. When the printhead is installed in the printer capable of printing at 360 dpi, four print dots printed at 720 dpi substantially express one dot printed at 360 dpi. Meanwhile, when the printhead is installed in the printer capable of printing at 720 dpi, one print dot expresses one dot printed at 720 dpi.

摘要： A method for producing a substrate for an ink jet recording head comprises preparing a substrate with plural heat generating resistors for applying heat to the ink, plural wirings electrically connected thereto, and plural heat generating areas formed by the heat generating resistors exposed from the wirings, coating the heat generating resistors and the wirings on the substrate with a first insulating protective film, removing the first insulating protective film by wet etching in portions on the heat generating areas, and coating thus etched first insulating protective film with a second insulating protective film, wherein the etched portion of the first insulating protective film, in the longitudinal direction of the heat generating area, is positioned inside from the end of the heat generating area, by at least 1/2 of the thickness of the first and second insulating protective films covering the wirings.The protective film is thus made thinner on the heat generating areas, thus reducing the electric power consumption while maintaining sufficient durability.

摘要： In an ink jet head using a thermal energy for ejecting ink, this invention aims to reliably and uniformly remove kogations deposited on a heat application portion in contact with the ink. To realize this objective, the upper protective layer is arranged in an area including the heat application portion so that it can be electrically connected to serve as an electrode which causes an electrochemical reaction with the ink. The upper protective layer is formed of a material containing a metal which is dissolved by the electrochemical reaction and which does not form, on heating, an oxide film which hinders the dissolution. With this arrangement, a reliable electrochemical reaction can be produced to dissolve a surface layer of the upper protective layer, thereby removing kogations on the heat application portion reliably and uniformly.

A manufacturing method of the semiconductor device includes steps of forming a linear recess in a silicon substrate between adjacent semiconductor devices, forming, on an inner surface of the recess, the electrode for external electrical connection of one of the semiconductor devices, and a step of separating the one semiconductor device from another on the silicon substrate by cutting the silicon substrate along the linear recess. Forming the electrode includes steps of forming a metal thin film astride a cutting line at which the silicon substrate is to be cut, forming a resist layer and patterning the resist layer on the metal thin film, growing metal at a portion not having the patterned resist layer, and removing the patterned resist layer and the metal thin film below the patterned resist layer. The connection electrode is provided by the metal grown in the growing step.

摘要： In order to form a more homogenous heat generating resistive layer, the present invention provides a method of manufacturing a substrate for an ink jet recording head having a support which has an insulative layer on its surface, a pair of electrode layers disposed on the surface of the support, and a heat generating resistive layer which continuously covers the pair of electrode layers and a section between the pair of electrode layers. The method includes the step of forming an electrode layer on the support and the step of forming the pair of electrode layers by etching the electrode layer. In the step of forming the pair of electrode layers by etching the electrode layer, by etching a surface portion of the insulative layer positioned between the pair of insulative layers, a recess is formed in the surface portion of the insulative layer.

To achieve the object, a head substrate includes a plurality of printing elements for printing, first driving elements which drive the printing elements, a fuse ROM which stores information, a second driving element which drives the fuse ROM, input device for inputting a printing signal to cause the plurality of printing elements to print and a block selection signal to time-divisionally drive the printing elements, selective driving device for selectively driving the first driving elements on the basis of the input printing signal and block selection signal, a first pad which applies a first voltage to the fuse ROM to write information, and a second pad which applies a second voltage to read out the information from the fuse ROM. In order to selectively drive the second driving element to operate the fuse ROM, the second driving element connects to the selective driving device, and the fuse ROM is selectively operative on the basis of the signals input from the input device.

摘要： This invention relates to a printhead substrate capable of suppressing an increase in wiring width and an increase in the size of a substrate formed by a film forming process while increasing the number of simultaneously driven printing elements in order to improve the printing performance, a printhead using the substrate, and a printing apparatus using the printhead. The wiring lines of the substrate are formed into a common wiring line, and energy applied to a heating resistance element is prevented from deviating from a stable ink discharge range owing to the difference in the number of simultaneously driven heating resistance elements. For this purpose, a driving element is greatly downsized in comparison with a conventional one, and the operation region of a MOS transistor is shifted from the non-saturation region to the saturation region.
