    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation in treatment efficiency by nitrite nitrogen and to execute stable nitrogen removal by oxidizing the ammonia nitrogen included in waste water to the nitrite nitrogen by a biological treatment, then reducing the nitrite nitrogen to gaseous nitrogen and removing the same from the waste water by a biological denitrification method using autotrophic bacteria. SOLUTION: The nitrite nitrogen is reduced to the gaseous nitrogen by using the autotrophic bacteria having resistance to the nitrite nitrogen in the denitrification stage. The autotrophic bacteria, such as hydrogen bacteria and sulfur oxidation bacteria, are respectively microorganisms for synthesizing and propagating microbial cells from the energy generated when hydrogen and a reducing sulfur compound are oxidized and carbon dioxide in the air. More particularly, the sulfur oxidation bacteria among the autotrophic bacteria have a self-granulation effect and, therefore, facilitate the enhancement of the efficiency of the concentration increasing treatment in a reactor and are optimum as the autotrophic bacteria. The autotrophic bacteria having the resistance to the nitrite nitrogen are used in the manner described above, by which the stable treatment of the waste water containing a high-concentration ammonia is made possible.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To treat water efficiently by restraining photorectivation of microorganisms while defects of ultraviolet disinfecting and phtocatalytic disinfection are compensated as a disinfecting method in place of a chlorine disinfection method. SOLUTION: When water to be treated is irradiated with ultraviolet radiation from ultraviolet lamp 2, a photoreactivation phenomenon of microorganism is restrained by irradiating cylindrical platy photocatalytic supports 9 to 12 arranged so that a photocatalyst having titanium dioxide, etc., as a main constituent and water to be treated come to be contact with each other simultaneously with ultraviolet radiation. As the ultraviolet lamp 2, a medium pressure or high pressure mercury lamp is preferably used. Thereby, the photoreactivation phenomenon of the microorganisms is restrained by a disinfection effect of free radicals having intensive oxidation force generated with the photocatalyst irradiated with ultraviolet radiation in addition to a direct disinfection effect of ultraviolet radiation, and effective disinfection can be executed.
