The reflected wave WR reflected by a fault F1 and a fracture zone F2 is detected by the reflected wave receivers 102a-e, and outputted to the controller 103. The controller 103 estimates the direction and distance of stratum boundary surfaces F1 , F2 , from the time delay between the elastic wave WE and the reflected wave WR, so that the excavation according to the estimated state of the stratum can be performed.

The underground surface is horizontally excavated while the excavator 4 is travelled on the trolley 3. The excavated soil is collected and discharged together with mud water through the pipe 7. And further, after the trolley 3 is lowered by a certain height by the lifter 3, the excavating operation with the excavator 4 is repeated. In this way, the ground can be safely and easily excavated with a high efficiency without necessity of soil improvement.

At the time of reinforcement cutting, the cemented carbide cutter bits 2a are rotated in cutting direction by the re versed rotation and advance of the casing tube 1, and bitten into the reinforce ment, thereby cutting the reinforcement. Hence, the reinforced concrete structure can be machined and cut over a long period by separately using both the cutter bits.

CONSTITUTION:Excavation is carried out by rotating the cutter head 2 of a shield excavator while shield jack groups 5 are applied to the front portion of assembled segments 10 and operated (extended), to control the propulsion and the propulsion direction of the shield excavator by the thrust of the jacks. During the excavation, the jack groups are controlled to be automatically inoperative (contracted) against a part of the segments 10 to execute the assembling of the segments one after another, making the synthetic thrust of the jacks a defined value while setting the direction of propulsion to control excavation. Thereby, the simultaneous execution of the shield excavation and the assembling of the segments 10 can be smoothly carried out.
