Thus, the amplitude of the surface acoustic wave stimulated by the electrode finger 4 has a distribution larger in the middle and gradually smaller toward both ends along the cross width direction, that is, the X axis direction by taking several adjacent electrode fingers into one set. Thus, a surface acoustic wave is made incident on a waveguide path 2 efficiently and the inter-conversion efficiency between an electric signal and a surface acoustic wave.

CONSTITUTION:The first - N-th (N : natural number) transmission signals generated at a definite transmission repeated cycle Tr by a transmission signal generator 1A are sent to an ultrasonic probe 6 to transmit ultrasonic waves to a test body S and the echos reflected from a flaw are received to be transmitted to a correlation device 7A. The first - N-th reference signals formed by a reference signal generator 11 are sent to the correlation device 7A. Correlation operation is performed between the respective echos and the respective reference signals to send compression pulses to an adder 10 and said pulses are added to be sent to a display device 8 as a synthetic compression pulse. In the synthetic compression pulse obtained by adding the compression pulses, range side lobes are set off to become zero and only a main lobe remains. Therefore, the effect of reverberation echos is perfectly set off and no effect is exerted on an inspection result.

The probe 6 is driven by the 1st transmission signal and transmits an ultrasonic wave to a subject S and the reflected echo is transmitted to the 1st correlator 11. The correlator 11 executes correlation processing between the transmitted echo and the 1st reference signal generated from the generator 1A and transmits the correlated result to the 2nd correlator 12, which executes the correlation processing between the signal transmitted from the 1st correlator 11 and the 3rd reference signal relating to the 3rd sequence generated from the generator 1A. The output of the correlator 12 is added to the correlated result between the 2nd reference signal and the echo by an adder 15 and the added result is displayed on a display device 8. Thus, a compressed pulse having a low side lobe level can be obtained.

Thus, number of components required for the outside of a surface acoustic wave element 1 is reduced and the device is made small, and since the impedance is matched with both the resistive component and the reactive component of the interdigital electrode 3 having an optional impedance, mismatching loss is reduced.
