    • An image reading device includes: an original table having a stationary original reading area and a moving original reading area on its top surface; an image reading unit provided inside the original table and moving the reading line in the direction of the width of the stationary original reading area and to the moving original reading area with the direction of the length of the stationary original reading area as the reading line; an original cover openably and closably provided on the original table so as to cover at least the stationary original reading area; and an ADF having an original conveyance path leading from an original tray by way of the moving original reading area to an original output tray. The image reading device reads originals of sizes larger than the readable stationary original size without any size increase of the device.

    • An image reading apparatus includes an image reading portion that moves in a predetermined direction and has an image reading sensor that reads an image on a sheet. A sheet feeder feeds the sheet. A first transparent member has a reference surface that supports the sheet thereon, and a second transparent member contacts the sheet fed by the sheet feeder. The image reading portion moves along a lower surface of the second transparent member, and the second transparent member is positioned to overlap a portion of the first transparent member as viewed from a direction perpendicular to the reference surface. The image reading portion moves along a lower surface of the first transparent member and moves along a lower surface of the second transparent member.

    • An image reading apparatus includes an image reading portion that moves in a predetermined direction. The image reading portion includes an image reading sensor that reads an image on a sheet. The image reading apparatus also includes a sheet feeder that feeds the sheet, a first transparent member with a reference surface that supports the sheet thereon, and a second transparent member that contacts the sheet fed by the sheet feeder.     • The driving device is provided with a motor, a pinion, a first gear, a second gear, and a frame. The frame has a motor side surface and a gear side surface, and includes a first portion and a second portion. A motor housing of the motor is fixed to and supported at the motor side surface of the first portion. A motor shaft extends from the motor housing, penetrating the first portion from the motor side surface to the gear side surface. The pinion is fixed to the distal end of the motor shaft at the gear side surface. The first gear and the second gear are coaxially disposed and rotatably supported at the gear side surface of the second portion. The driving force of the motor is transmitted to the first gear and the second gear through the pinion.     • A scanner is provided with a main body, a hinge, a cover member, and a plurality of sets, each set comprising a pin and a pin hole. The main body includes a transparent plate on the top surface, on which a document is placed. The hinge connects the main body and the cover member. The cover member rotates with respect to the main body between an opened state and a closed state. The cover member has a bottom surface, which makes contact with the top surface of the main body in the closed state. The pins are formed on one of the top surface of the main body and the bottom surface of the cover member, while the pin holes are formed on the other of the top surface of the main body and the bottom surface of the cover member. The plurality of sets adjusts a positional relationship between the main body and the cover member in the closed state.
