    • A method of treating a direct positive silver halide sensitive material is disclosed. The material is comprised of a base having thereon a compound represented by the general formula (I), a sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion layer and a hydrophilic colloid layer. The exposed material is developed in the presence of the compound represented by the general formula (II) ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 independently represent a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic residue, an aromatic residue or a heterocyclic residue, R.sup.3 represents a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic residue, R.sup.4 represents a hydrogen atom, an aliphatic residue or an aromatic residue, and X represents a divalent aromatic residue; ##STR2## wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 represent each a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic residue, and R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 may form a ring by linking together, R.sup.3 represents a divalent aliphatic residue, X represents a single bond or a divalent heterocyclic ring containing nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atoms, and M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal, a quaternary ammonium salt, a quaternary phosphonium salt or an amidino group.The invention provides a process wherein the sharpness and edge effects of direct positive images are greatly improved. The results obtained with the process do not vary due to changes in the bromine ion concentration in the developing solution or the pH thereof.

    • A method of forming a photographic image which comprises development processing with an alkaline activator solution a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least one surface latent image type silver halide emulsion layer, and containing in at least one layer selected from the silver halide emulsion layer and another hydrophilic colloid layer(1) a developing agents;(2) an acylhydrazine compound represented by formula (I):R.sup.1 NHNHCOR.sup.2 (I)wherein R.sup.1 represents an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group or alkyl group; and R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom, or an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group or alkyl group; and(3) at least one compound represented by formula (II): ##STR1## wherein each of W.sup.1 and W.sup.2 can represent a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic group or W.sup.1 and W.sup.2 are bonded each other to form a ring; W.sup.3 represents a divalent aliphatic group; Q.sup.1 represents a simple bond or a divalent heterocyclic group containing a nitrogen atom, an oxygen atom, or a sulfur atom; and M represents a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal atom, an alkaline earth metal atom, a quarternary ammonium salt, a quarternary phosphonium salt, or an amidino group, or an inorganic acid salt or an organic acid salt thereof.According to the activator type developing method, a dot image having good dot quality and screen range can be obtained.

    • A method of forming a photographic image which comprises development processing with an alkaline aqueous activator solution a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material comprising a support having thereon at least one surface latent image type silver halide emulsion layer, and containing in at least one layer selected from a silver halide emulsion layer and another hydrophilic colloid-layer (1) a hydroquinone series developing agent and (2) an acylhydrazine compound represented by formula (I):R.sup.1 NHNHCOR.sup.2 (I)wherein R.sup.1 represents an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group or alkyl group; and R.sup.2 represents a hydrogen atom, or an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group or alkyl group,wherein the aqueous activator solution or a prebath thereof contains at least one compound represented by formula (II): ##STR1## wherein each of W.sup.1, W.sup.2, W.sup.3, and W.sup.11 can represent a hydrogen atom, an unsubstituted or substituted alkyl group, alkenyl group, or alkynyl group, an acyl group, or a sulfonyl group, and W.sup.1 and W.sup.2, or W.sup.3 and W.sup.11, can be bonded to each other to form a ring; Q.sup.1 represents --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 -- or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --; and n represents an integer of 1 to 4.According to this activator type developing method, an image having good quality can be constantly obtained irrespective of the stirring conditions of the processing solution.
