    • A paging system includes a receiver adapted for receiving paging signals at a fixed bit rate of N.multidot.R where N is an integer and R is a basic bit rate. A transmitter transmits at the N.multidot.R bit rate, N being adjustable to accommodate any signal for any particular receiver. The transmitter bit rate is selected according to serial data received from a telephone exchange with a message to be transmitted. The transmitter has a degree indicating system producing a first signal representative of a degree N when it receives a signal which is representative of a bit rate N.multidot.R. It has interleaving means for N-degree interleaving of input data having the bit rate N.multidot.R, in response to the first signal, to produce an interleaved signal; and transmitting means for transmitting said interleaved signal. The receiver has means for receiving a signal whose bit rate is N.multidot.R bit rate indicating means for outputting a first signal which is representative of N; de-interleaving means for N-degree de-interleaving the received signal, in response to the first signal, to produce a de-interleaved signal; and deciding means for deciding whether or not a paging address number, which may be included in the de-interleaved signal, is assigned to the receiver. Alarm means may produce an audible alarm in response to an output of the deciding means.

    • A power source control apparatus for use in electronic equipment of the type including a microprocessor and a main power source in the form of a battery controls a boosting circuit which boosts the output voltage of the battery to produce an operating voltage of the equipment. Connected in parallel to the battery are the boosting circuit and a power switch for producing a power ON/OFF signal. A reset/set flip-flop is connected between the boosting circuit and the power switch. The boosting circuit is operable only when the output of the flip-flop has a set state. Even when the power ON/OFF signal becomes a low level, i.e., OFF state, the flip-flop maintains its output in a set state until a power control signal is fed thereto from the external equipment. The period of time for which the operating power should be held after the turn-off of the power switch can be freely determined to suit the external equipment. Further, a reset signal generating circuit is provided for producing a predetermined reset signal depending upon the state of the flip-flop output.

    • A speech predictive coding system produces a predicted residual sequence and parameter information representing predictor coefficients and residual power. The parameter information is encoded into reflected binary code and multiplexed with the predicted residual sequence for transmission to a receiver. At the receiver the multiplexed data is demultiplexed into a predicted residual sequence and reflected binary encoded parameter information. Burst errors in the multiplexed signal are detected at the receiver using a burst-energy detector, and when so detected cause a bit by bit substitution from a prior frame of the encoded parameter information into the present frame of the encoded parameter information. The encoded parameter information, with those substitutions as are necessary is decoded and used to generate the predictor coefficients and residual power for converting the predicted residual sequence into a reconstructed speech signal.

    • Transmission channel estimation is performed for NT×NR reception signals and estimated transmission channel values are thereby output. The estimated transmission channel values are divided into N groups of NT×M estimated transmission channel values and a covariance matrix with M rows and N columns is obtained for each of the estimated transmission channel value groups. The N covariance matrixes are averaged over a predetermined range in terms of at least a time or a frequency (first averaging). Eigenvectors are generated based on respective N averaging outputs. Transmission channels between base station antennas and terminal antennas are generated from the eigenvectors and the estimated transmission channel values. Covariance matrixes are obtained for the generated transmission channels. The covariance matrixes are averaged over a different range from the range used in the first averaging (second averaging) and a beam forming weight is obtained by combining the generated eigenvectors.
