    • Inhibition of protein kinases having one or more cysteine residues within the ATP binding site is effected by contacting the kinase, per se or in a cell or subject, with an inhibitory-effective amount of a compound having a heterocyclic core structure comprised of two or more fused rings containing at least one nitrogen ring atom, and an electrophilic substituent that is capable of reacting with a cysteine residue within the ATP binding site of a kinase. Preferred compounds include certain pyrrolopyrimidines and oxindoles having such an electrophilic substituent and optionally an aromatic or heteroaromatic substituent that is capable of interacting with a threonine or smaller residue located in the gatekeeper position of the kinase. Kinases lacking such cysteine residues may be engineered or modified so that they are capable of being inhibited by such compounds by replacing a valine or other amino acid residue within the ATP binding site by a cysteine residue.

    • The invention provides an armor plate for absorbing and dissipating kinetic energy from armor piercing 7.62 mm projectiles having a projectile length of from 32.8 mm to 37 mm, the armor plate comprising a plurality of ceramic pellets and a solidified material, each ceramic pellet having a body portion and a convexly curved end portion, each body portion having two opposite ends, an axis passing through each end and a substantially constant cross-section along the axis, and each convexly curved end portion extending from an end of the corresponding body portion, each body portion having a body portion length along the axis between the two ends, the ceramic pellets being embedded in the solidified material so that the solidified material retains the ceramic pellets in a ceramic pellet layer which is one pellet thick with the convexly curved end portions lying at or adjacent an impact receiving side of the armor plate, wherein the ceramic pellet layer is the only layer of ceramic pellets in the armor plate, wherein the ceramic pellet layer has an edge extending therearound formed by a subset of the ceramic pellets, wherein the ceramic pellets are arranged so that the body portion of substantially each pellet, other than of the pellets of the subset, lies in contact with or closely adjacent to the respective body portions of six neighboring ones of the ceramic pellets so that there are a plurality of valleys extending through the ceramic pellet layer with each valley being bordered by three adjacent ceramic pellets, wherein substantially each valley has a shape and size such that the diameter of the largest imaginary circle that will fit into the each valley between the neighboring body portions and substantially perpendicularly to the neighboring axes is from 1.96 mm to 3.7 mm, and wherein each body portion length is from 5.57 mm to 10.73 mm.

    • A technique for image compositing which allows a user to select the best image of an object, such as for example a person, from a set of images interactively and see how it will be assembled into a final photomontage. A user can select a source image from the set of images as an initial composite image. A region, representing a set of pixels to be replaced, is chosen by the user in the composite image. A corresponding same region is reflected in one or more source images, one of which will be selected by the user for painting into the composite image. The technique optimizes the selection of pixels around the user-chosen region or regions for cut points that will be least likely to show seams where the source images are merged in the composite image.

    • A real-time approximately 360 degree image correction system and a method for alleviating distortion and perception problems in images captured by omni-directional cameras. In general, the real-time panoramic image correction method generates a warp table from pixel coordinates of a panoramic image and applies the warp table to the panoramic image to create a corrected panoramic image. The corrections are performed using a parametric class of warping functions that include Spatially Varying Uniform (SVU) scaling functions. The SVU scaling functions and scaling factors are used to perform vertical scaling and horizontal scaling on the panoramic image pixel coordinates. A horizontal distortion correction is performed using the SVU scaling functions at at least two different scaling factors. This processing generates a warp table that can be applied to the panoramic image to yield the corrected panoramic image. In one embodiment the warp table is concatenated with a stitching table used to create the panoramic image.

    • The subject invention provides a unique system and method that facilitates a viewer's viewing experience of a presentation as shown on the viewer's own machine. The system and method provide the viewer with navigation and annotation control of the viewer's view of the presentation without affecting the presenter's presentation and/or the presenter's display of the presentation. When viewing a presentation, the viewer can annotate at least a portion of the presentation with text, audio, ink markings, as well as insert URL or other web-based information. Searches can be conducted during the viewing of the presentation to further supplement content in the presentation. The search results including the pertinent URLs can be added in whole or in part to the relevant portions of the presentation. Furthermore, the viewer can view the presentation in a variety of perspectives and zoom levels to gain context over the presentation or parts thereof.
