    • Spinning machine apparatus is provided which includes a plurality of open-end spinning units, each of said spinning units being provided with a bobbin holder for holding bobbins to wind up the thread produced at the spinning unit. A supply station is fixedly disposed at each spinning unit for storing a supply of empty spool tubes provided with starter threads. A traveling servicing device is guided on tracks adjacent the spinning units and includes lever mechanisms for effecting removal of a full bobbin and replacement thereof with one of the supply of empty spool tubes at the respective supply station. According to preferred embodiments, the method of utilizing the apparatus includes manually filling the supply stations at the spinning units, with the traveling servicing device being automatically operated to effect the tube transfer operation.

    • A process and apparatus for piecing a yarn on spinning assemblies of an open end spinning machine is provided. A prepared yarn end is pieced to a sliver ring produced in a spinning rotor during running up of the spinning rotor from a predetermined slower speed toward its operational normal spinning speed. In order to accommodate application of the yarn end to the sliver ring, the formation of the sliver ring, and the drawing off of new yarn pieced together at the sliver ring, the invention provides for a control of the acceleration behavior of the spinning rotor so as to lengthen the time segment in which the piecing steps can be performed. In preferred embodiments, non-contact electromagnet or electrical eddy current braking means are provided for countering the driving torque of a common drive means for the rotors of several spinning assemblies, whereby the acceleration curve is flattened with a lengthening of the time period for existent desirable piecing speeds. In other preferred embodiments, inter-exchangeable spinning rotors of different diameters are provided with similar mass moments of inertia so as to exhibit similar flattened acceleration curves, even for very small diameter spinning rotors. In other preferred embodiments, driving mechanisms and/or braking mechanisms for the spinning rotor shafts are provided for controlling the running up or acceleration behavior.

    • Servicing apparatus is provided for servicing a multiplicity of spinning assemblies arranged side by side in open end spinning frame. The apparatus includes a plurality of part instruments for performing separate servicing operations at respective ones of the spinning assemblies, such as part instruments for cleaning, piecing up operations, and spindle bobbin exchanges. Since these part instruments are geometrically wider in the travel direction thereof than are the individual spinning assemblies, the invention involves a geometric arrangement of the various parts within the part instrument so as to accommodate simultaneous servicing of adjacent spinning assemblies by two different part instruments, without the part instruments blocking one another. In preferred embodiments of the invention the parts of the mobile instrument which must directly cooperate with the parts of the individual spinning assemblies are all arranged at one edge zone of the part instrument, with associated driving mechanisms and the like being located in another zone of the part instrument. In this manner, and by placing the respective edge zones of adjacent spinning machines as facing one another in the travel direction of the part instruments, it is possible to simultaneously serve immediately adjacent spinning assemblies without the part instruments blocking one another. In certain preferred embodiments, the height of the part instruments is so limited as to permit passage of the part instruments with respect to one another and also to permit simultaneous working at different parts of a spinning assembly by two different part instruments.

The yarn transfer apparatus includes a mechanism for automatically adjusting the speed of the yarn take-off during the transfer from the piecing device to the spinning assembly, for ensuring a continuous uniform denier of the yarn produced both before, during, and after the yarn transfer movement. Preferred embodiments include mechanisms for accommodating the shortening of the travel path between the spinning rotor and a winding spool at the spinning assembly resulting during this yarn transfer. Certain embodiments include direct control of the sliver feed to the spinning rotor so as to correspond to the change in speed of the yarn take-off during the transfer, while other embodiments leave the sliver feed unaffected while adjusting the yarn take-off mechanism to avoid changes in yarn take-off speed that would otherwise affect the quality of the yarn after the piecing operation.

    • A spinning machine arrangement is provided having fiber feeding and opening apparatus arranged upstream of the spinning turbine with respect to a supply of fibers to be spun. This apparatus includes a feeder roll and an opening roll arranged serially in the travel path of the fiber stream, said rolls being housed in a housing having one side formed by a flat baseplate. Individual separate guide parts are detachably attached to this baseplate for guiding the flow of fibers and air through the feeder roll and opening roll. These guide parts are constructed of different materials and machined to different tolerances in dependence upon the specific loads and requirements experienced in use due to the configuration and operation of the apparatus. A cover plate is disposed parallel to and in facing relationship to the baseplate, with the opening and feeder rolls, as well as at least a portion of the guide parts disposed therebetween. In preferred embodiments, the axle for the opening roll also operates as a pivot axis for the baseplate, with the opening roll being bearingly supported in the base plate. In this manner, pivotal movements of the baseplate effect engagement and disengagement of the opening roll with driving means thereof. At least some of the guide parts are attached to the baseplate to be adjustable in the radial direction with respect to the opening roll axis, so as to accommodate variable exact positioning thereof.

    • In the case of an open-end spinning machine, a suction roller is provided which serves to transport a fiber veil, expanding transversely to the circumferential direction of the suction roller, to a yarn formation line. The length of the transport path and the width of the fiber veil are determined by defining edges of a suction insert located inside the suction roller. At least one of the defining edges extends at least along a section of the transport path at an acute angle to the circumferential direction. Thus the fiber veil is widened in comparison to the sliver-shaped fed fiber material and/or the fiber tip at the beginning of the yarn formation line is shortened.
