    • PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having an excellent electromagnetic conversion characteristic and running durability by coating a magnetic coating compd. prepd. by dispersing prescribed ferromagnetic powder mixture and resin component into an org. solvent on a nonmagnetic base and subjecting the coating layer to a treatment to attract the pulverized ferromagnetic metallic powder in the coating layer by a magnet then subjecting said layer to an orientation treatment. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic coating compd. prepd. by dispersing the magnetic layer forming components contg. the ferromagnetic powder mixture composed of ferromagnetic oxide powder and/or ferromagnetic hexagonal ferrite powder and pulverized ferromagnetic metallic powder and the resin component into the org. solvent is coated on the nonmagnetic base 1. The coating layer 2 travels in an arrow direction while the base 1 and the magnet 3 maintain the contact. The ferromagnetic powder in the coating layer 2 is attracted to the base 1 side. The magnet 3 in this stage has >=1,500 Gauss, more preferably >=2,500 Gauss magnetic flux density. The coating layer 2 is subjected to the normal orientation treatment by a magnetic field orientation treatment device 4 and is dried by a dryer 5.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the running durability of a vapor deposition type magnetic recording medium without deteriorating the electromagnetic conversion characteristic, etc., thereof by depositing a ferromagnetic metal by diagonal evaporation on a non-magnetic substrate then coating a lubricating agent thereon and smoothing the surface under pressurization. CONSTITUTION:The non-magnetic substrate is inclined at >=45 deg. with the virtual perpendicular of the surface thereof and the beam of the ferromagnetic metal is made incident thereon to deposit the may columnar ferromagnetic materials at about 0.1-0.14mum on the substrate surface. A monobasic fatty acid of 12-22 C in particular among compds. having polar groups in the molecule is then coated on the surface in a 1-10mg/1mg range. The surface thereof is then smoothed under >=200kg/cm linear pressure by bringing >=2 pieces of mirror surface rolls and the surface of the vapor deposited layer into contact with each other, then at least part of the spaces between the columnar ferromagnetic materials are crushed, by which the packing rate is improved and the contact characteristic with a magnetic head is improved. The substrate is thereafter cut to a tape having a desired width, by which the magnetic recording medium is completed.

    • PURPOSE: To obtain a cleaning tape which eliminates the dirt stuck to a magnetic head in a short time without damaging the magnetic head, by specifying the specific surface area of an abrasive and the average roughness on the center of the surface of a cleaning layer.
      CONSTITUTION: With respect to the cleaning tape consisting of a supporting body and the cleaning layer which is provided on the supporting body and contains the abrasive, the abrasive consists essentially of a ferromagnetic alloy powder having 40W65m
      2 /g specific surface area, and the average roughness on the line for 0.08mm cut-off value of the surface of the cleaning layer is set within the range of 0.02W0.04μm. Thus, the cleaning tape acts effectively upon even the magnetic head brought into contact with a magnetic recording medium with a low contacting pressure and eliminates the dirt, which is stuck to the magnetic head of low hardness like a sendust composite magnetic head, in a short time without damaging the magnetic head.

    • PURPOSE: To improve the long-term durability of a thin Al film layer without spoiling the characteristic thereof by providing the thin Al layer on a non-magnetic substrate and forming a protective layer consisting of an Al oxide film on the surface.
      CONSTITUTION: The thin Al film layer to be provided on the substrate is preferably 300Å in thickness and the thin Al film is formed on the substrate by a vapor deposition or plating method. The thickness of the Al oxide film is preferably ≥10Å and the Al oxide film is formed on the surface of the thin Al film by passing the non-magnetic substrate deposited with Al by evaporation in a zone kept at and under a prescribed temp. and humidity or is passed through the inside of a gaseous atm. which permits prescribed oxidation. The direct contact of the thin Al film and the magnetic layer is prevented and the effect of preventing the electrification and the adhesiveness to the magnetic layer are maintained for a long period of time when the Al oxide film is provided. It is also possible to provide a suitable resin primer coating layer between the Al oxide film and the magnetic layer to improve strength.
