    • The present invention provides an optical sheet having a plurality of light guide plate patterns, each light guide plate pattern having a micro-patterned output surface for emitting light, and a micro-patterned bottom surface opposing to the output surface. The steps comprise, extruding a first resin into the nip between a first pressure roller and a first patterned roller to form a first layer at a first patterned roller surface temperature T1 and a first nip pressure P1, the first layer having an unpatterned surface and a patterned surface, the patterned surface having a micro-pattern transferred from the first patterned roller; extruding a second resin into the nip between a second pressure roller and a second patterned roller to form a second layer at a second patterned roller surface temperature T2 and a second nip pressure P2, the second layer having an unpatterned surface and a patterned surface, the patterned surface having a micro-pattern transferred from the second patterned roller and laminating the first layer and the second layer at their unpatterned surfaces to form the optical sheet comprising a plurality of light guide plate patterns.

    • The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a diffusely reflecting polarizer, comprising: extruding and stretching a film containing a first polymer having a birefringence of less than 0.02, with said first polymer being a substantially amorphous nano-composite material, and a second polymer, the first polymer being a major phase, and the second polymer being a dispersed minor phase, wherein said first and second polymers taken together along a first axis for one polarization state of electromagnetic radiation exhibit a diffuse reflectivity R1d, a specular reflectivity R1s, a total reflectivity R1t, a diffuse transmittance T1d, a specular transmittance T1s, and a total transmittance T1t, and along a second axis for another polarization state of electromagnetic radiation exhibit a diffuse reflectivity R2d, a specular reflectivity R2s, a total reflectivity R2t, a diffuse transmittance T2d, a specular transmittance T2s, and a total transmittance T2t, the said first and second axes being orthogonal, wherein the parameters of composition, Tg, and refractive index and the stretch temperature and stretch ratio of the first and second polymers are selected to satisfy the equations: R1d is greater than R1s; and  (1) T2t/(1−0.5(R1t+R2t))>1.35.  (2)

    • The present invention provides a light redirecting article for redirecting light toward a target angle, the light redirecting article comprising: an input surface comprising a plurality of light redirecting structures each light redirecting structure having a near surface having two slopes, sloping away from normal in one direction as defined by a first inclination base angle β1, a second inclination angle β2, and a first half apex angle α2, for accepting incident illumination over a range of incident angles and a far surface sloping away from normal, in the opposite direction relative to the input surface, as defined by a second base angle γ1 and a second half apex angle α1. The invention further provides an output surface opposing to the input surface wherein the near and far surfaces are opposed to each other at an angle (α1+α2) that is in the range from 60 to 70 degrees, and the base angle β1 is in the range from 82 to 87 degrees.
