    • A network access node eNB sends to a user equipment UE a pattern of subframe measurement restrictions and an indication of how to utilize the pattern for measuring subframes. The indication may select from among: the UE's own-cell measurements; the UE's neighbor-cell measurements; both same and neighbor-cell measurements, and no measurement restrictions. The eNB may generate the pattern from an almost-blank subframe ABS pattern for the UE's own-cell and of its neighbor-cell. The pattern and indication may be sent in separate RRC messages, or if sent in one message there is a second indication sent in a second RRC message instructing the UE to terminate utilizing the pattern and indication for restricting its subframe measurements. Embodiments are particularly useful for inter-cell interference mitigation eICIC for the LTE-Advanced system.

    • A cell informs surrounding cells about an orthogonal resource allocation strategy of the informing cell so as to induce cooperative behavior among the cells. The informing cell also receives resource allocation strategies from the surrounding cells. Each cell allocates its orthogonal resources according to the mutually exchanged information. The result is to reduce interference in the system. For example, a BS informs other cells on which clusters it generates a small interference, e.g., close UEs concentrated into a particular cluster, and indicate that to its neighbors. Other cells would concentrate UEs which are on the edge to the indicating cell exactly in this cluster. This would mean an “overload invitation”, i.e. inviting the neighbors to produce overload on a particular cluster. If a cell sends an overload invitation on a sufficiently large cluster, this will automatically reduce the interference in the other clusters.

    • Methods and apparatus operative in a wireless communications system divide a communications resource available for performing information transmission and retransmission operations into a plurality of communication resource units. Channel quality information is used to rank each of the communication resource units in terms of channel quality. The communication resource units are divided into a first group having better channel quality and a second group having worse channel quality. The first group of communication resource units having better channel quality is used to transmit new information to a first group of receiving communication devices. The second group of communication resource units having worse channel quality is used to retransmit information to a second group of receiving communication devices. In such a manner simultaneous scheduling of information transmission and retransmission may be accommodated in a 3GPP LTE OFDM based wireless communications system.

    • The present invention relates to a scheduling method and apparatus for scheduling data packets in time-shared channels, wherein a scheduling priority is determined for a user based on a ratio between a transmission parameter, e.g. throughput, offered to the user and an average preceding value (Tn) of the transmission parameter provided to the user within a predetermined time period. The determined scheduling priority is changed in dependence on a difference between the average preceding value and a minimum average value allocated to the user, e.g. by using a mapping function for generating a mapped value (Hn) replacing the average preceding value (Tn). Thereby, the minimum average value allocated to the user can be guaranteed by increasing the scheduling priority when the monitored average preceding value converges to the minimum average value.

    • A rule specifies a timing relation between a measurement configuration which indicates at least one subframe to measure and a reporting configuration which indicates at least one subframe in which to report. This rule is used by both user equipment UE and network to map between a downlink subframe in which channel state information is measured and an uplink subframe in which the channel state information is reported. The network may configure the UE with the measurement and reporting configurations via dedicated signaling or broadcast. If the measurement configuration is periodic and indicates multiple downlink subframes to measure the rule results in a one to one mapping of downlink to uplink subframe where less than all of the multiple downlink subframes map to an uplink subframe; if aperiodic the rule indicates a single downlink subframe to measure.
