    • PURPOSE: A comb-like polyoxyethylene-based polymer/conjugate polymer blend is provided to stably maintain the alignment of a liquid crystal for long time, thereby being capable of increasing the efficiency of a liquid crystal display device. CONSTITUTION: A comb-like polyoxyethylene-based polymer/conjugate polymer blend comprises 100.0 parts by weight of a polymer indicated in chemical formula 1, and 10-90 parts by weight of a conjugated polymer which consists of one or more polymers selected from polymers indicated in chemical formula 2, 3, 4, or 5. A liquid crystal device comprises: an upper and lower substrate which faces each other; a transparent electrode formed on the upper and lower substrate; and a liquid crystal layer formed between the alignment film; and a liquid crystal alignment film which has a liquid crystal layer formed between the alignment films and is formed of the polymer blend.

    • PURPOSE: A liquid crystal alignment layer is provided to obtain pretilt angles of various liquid crystals, to stably maintain the alignment of the liquid crystals for long time and to be used as an alignment film in various liquid crystal modes such as TN(twisted nematic), IPS(in-plane switching), VA(vertical alignment) and OCB(optically compensated bend), etc. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal alignment layer comprises a polymer indicated in chemical formula 1. In chemical formula 1, R1 is hydrogen or -CO-R3, In here R3 is hydrogen, a C1-30 alkyl group, benzene, hydroxy, ester, coumarin, or carboxylic acid. R2 is a C1-30 alkyl group or C1-30 fluorinated alkyl group, p is 0.50-0.99, l is an integer from 10-2,000, and each of m and n is an integer from 1-4. The number average molecular weight of the polymer is 10,000-300,000 and the dispersity is 1.0-4.0.

    • PURPOSE: An optical retardation film and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to simply and easily induce vertical alignment of liquid crystals using a plasma processed substrate. CONSTITUTION: A first substrate(11) and a second substrate(12) have one processed surface. A vertical alignment hardening liquid crystal layer(20) faces plasma-processed surfaces of the first and second substrates. The vertical alignment hardening liquid crystal layer is interposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. Dielectric anisotropy of liquid crystals of the vertical alignment hardening liquid crystal layer is negative. The thickness of the vertical alignment hardening liquid crystal layer is from 10 nm to 1 micrometer.
