    • An image forming apparatus includes an image bearer, a transfer device, and a transfer bias power source. The transfer bias power source is configured to output an alternately switching voltage that alternates between a transfer-directional voltage having a polarity to transfer the toner image from the image bearer onto the recording medium and a return-directional voltage having an opposite polarity to the polarity of the transfer-directional voltage. The transfer bias power source is configured to reduce a target value of Vdc as an image area ratio of a toner image to be printed increases, and to increase the target value of Vdc as the image area ratio reduces, where Vdc is an average value of the alternately switching voltage during printing.

    • A transfer device includes a transfer bias power source, a switching device, and a sheet dependent condition setting device. The transfer bias power source applies to a transfer member, based on sheet dependent conditions for a recording medium onto which a toner image is transferred, one of a DC transfer bias and a superimposed transfer bias including an alternating current (AC) component superimposed on a DC component. The switching device switches a transfer mode between a DC transfer mode in which the DC transfer bias is applied to the transfer device and a superimposed-bias transfer mode in which the superimposed transfer bias is applied to the transfer device. The sheet dependent condition setting device sets arbitrarily at least one of the sheet dependent conditions for the recording medium at the superimposed-bias transfer mode. The sheet dependent conditions include a DC component value and an AC component value.

    • The present invention is directed to suppress dullness of a scanning signal in a scanning signal line drive circuit. A bistable circuit is provided with an input terminal (43) for receiving a first clock signal (CK), an input terminal (48) for receiving a control signal (CT), an input terminal (49) for receiving a level down signal (LD), an output terminal (51), a thin film transistor (T2), and a thin film transistor (TA). The thin film transistor (T2) has a gate terminal connected to a first node (N1), a drain terminal connected to the input terminal (43), and a source terminal connected to the output terminal (51). The thin film transistor (TA) has a gate terminal connected to the input terminal (48), a drain terminal connected to the first node (N1), and a source terminal connected to the input terminal (49). The potential of the control signal (CT) becomes the high level in a control period as a period except for the first one horizontal scanning period in a vertical blanking period. The level down signal (LD) is a potential lower than DC power supply potential (Vss).
