    • The present invention relates to at least a method of authenticating a user in a communication network including contacting an authentication entity in a first authentication of a user seeking access to the communication network; supplying to the user first information, the first information being generated based on privacy information of the user and shared information, the shared information being shared among all access nodes of a group of access nodes, the group of access nodes including at least a first access node and a second access node, and verifying the privacy information in a second authentication of the user by applying the shared information to the first information. The present invention further relates to a corresponding apparatus.

    • An apparatus for facilitating elimination of ambient light from an image of an object, comprising an illumination apparatus adapted to sequentially illuminate the object using multiple lighting arrangements, an image sensor. The apparatus adapted to form on the image sensor (i) a first image of the object using a first illumination arrangement, (ii) a second image of the object using a second illumination arrangement, and (iii) a dark image of the object without illumination. The image sensor is adapted to A) compare an intensity value of a first pixel in the first image to an intensity value of a corresponding, first pixel in the second image to determine a first minimum intensity value, B) determine if the first minimum intensity value is greater than an intensity value of a corresponding, first pixel in the dark image by greater than a predetermined amount; and C) identify an ambient intensity value (a) as the first minimum intensity value, if the first minimum intensity value is not greater than the intensity value of the first pixel in the dark image by greater than the predetermined amount, or (b) as the intensity value of the first pixel in the dark image, if the first minimum intensity value is greater than the intensity value of the first pixel in the dark image by greater than the predetermined amount.

    • A database system may perform a streaming evaluation of an XPath expression by utilizing an XPath evaluation component in tandem with an XML event-streaming component. For a more optimal filtered streaming evaluation, the XML event-streaming component may provide an interface whereby the evaluation component sends certain criteria to the event-streaming component when requesting an XML event. The criteria may be based on a next unmatched step in the XPath expression. In response to the request for an XML event, the event-streaming component may only return events that match the criteria. The evaluation component may be, for example, a compiled state machine for the XPath expression. The criteria may be pre-compiled for each possible state in the state machine. The event-streaming component may also utilize the criteria along with schema information to skip parsing of certain segments of XML data.
