Pile tables; sheet separators.-Relates to the pivoted fingers, which, in sheet-feeding mechanism, serve to control the pile-elevating gear, and also to hold the pile in position while the top sheet is removed. The two fingers M, M' are mounted on a shaft O, which carries also an arm Q to actuate the pile-raising gear. In order to permit both fingers to bear evenly on the top sheet, should the pile become uneven, one finger M is provided with a resilient foot N, comprising two plates A, B with helical springs interposed, which can be secured on the finger by a thumb-screw L. In modifications, the resilient finger is in the form of (1) a flexible leaf-spring, and (2) a weighted arm on a sleeve loose on the shaft.

Cylinder machines with plane printing-surfaces.- Link-work for reciprocating the beds of printing and other machines of the type comprising a radius rod as a, Fig. 1, connected to a link d which is reciprocated by a connecting-rod, is constructed so as to obtain a long throw of the bed without using a machine of great height or providing a pit for the oscillating parts. The invention consists in the use of one or two links d which are connected to the bed by means of telescopic parts g. The links d may be connected together at their upper ends, and are provided with trunnions carrying blocks e which are reciprocated in guides f fixed to the frame of the machine. A connecting-rod j, which is actuated by a crank-pin carried by a pair of wheels'm, is connected to the links d, or preferably to the members g, and as the links d are oscillated the bed reciprocates between the positions h, h , the members g sliding in the link d during the motion. One link d only may be used on a small machine. A buffer-device may be used if required, but the links d act as a buffer and may be loaded so as to increase this action.
