摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve regulation of pump discharge such that the pump can be satisfied with minimized use of power. SOLUTION: The variable displacement vane pump 10 may utilize both hydrostatic and mechanical assistance in radially positioning its vanes to ensure efficient and quiet operation of the pump and to facilitate priming of the pump. The vane pump 10 may also use both hydrostatic and mechanical actuators to control the position of its enclosed ring or eccentric ring 20 and hence, to regulate the output of the pump. According to another aspect of the invention, to prevent inlet flow restriction or cavitation, a valve 150 may be provided to provide needed velocity and energy for a pump outlet 18 or a part of discharge flow to bleed into the pump inlet 16.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fan drive assembly using an electronically controlled electromagnetic rheological fluid employed to increase a rotation speed of a cooling fan of a radiator connected to the assembly. SOLUTION: The introduction of a magnetic field inside an operation chamber between a drive ring 74 and an output member 86 leads to a change of a fluid state from free-flowing liquid to semi solid, thereby increasing the viscosity of an electromagnetic rheological fluid. By increasing a shear speed of the electromagnetic rheological fluid, additional torque driven by faster rotation speed is generated so as to cool the output member 86 and a fan of the connected radiator by a coolant flowing through the closely connected radiator. A current is passed through an electric coil 62 connected inside the fan drive assembly 60, which generates a magnetic field. The electrically controlled device connected to the electric coil controls the amount of a current passed through the coil 62 so as to maintain the temperature of an engine block within an allowable temperature range at a specified engine speed.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flow of a coolant favorable for low speed engine idling rotation while avoiding pump cavitation during engine high speed rotation without using an auxiliary water pump. SOLUTION: A viscous coupling 50 is connected or coupled to a water pump 52 and it is used for controlling a flow rate of the coolant in a cooling device. When an engine is in a low speed rotation state, the water pump 52 is driven at a speed very close to an input rotational speed, and the viscous coupling hardly affects a rotational speed of the pump. But, by the existence of the viscous coupling, a large water pump can be used and the coolant can be sufficiently caused to flow even during low speed operation of the engine. In proportion to rise of a rotational speed of the engine, the viscous coupling slips and a relative input rotational speed to the water pump declines, and by this, danger of the water pump causing cavitation is reduced.
