摘要： Diazomethane is prepared in a batch process on a scale of at least 50 gram-moles per batch, from an N-methyl-N-nitroso amine in an organic solvent and an inorganic base in an aqueous solution by the use of a phase transfer catalyst and by controlling the choice of solvent, reagent concentrations, addition rate and reaction temperature to cause codistillation of the product and the organic solvent in such a manner that the concentration of diazomethane in both liquid and vapor phases are controlled within limits that will prevent detonation of the diazomethane.

摘要： Lightweight compressed gas cylinders are incorporated into a module (11) which contains manifolding (22) and which is designed for easy loading, unloading and transport on a flat-bed truck or other vehicle (51), particularly a roll-on roll-off transport truck, which is a specialized truck for mechanized handling of large containers. The module eliminates the need to retain the vehicle itself at the site of use. While a variety of cylinders of composite construction to achieve light weight can be used, certain novel composite cylinders which are particularly useful are also disclosed. These cylinders have a lightweight metallic liner or core cylinder (62) wrapped with three layers (63, 64, 65) of wound fiber. The inner and outer layers are axially-wound glass fiber and the intermediate layer is hoop-wound carbon fiber.

摘要： A programmable gate structure (20) having functionally redundant architeture for enhanced production yields and reliability comprises a plurality of two-input nodes (10) at least some of which may be programmed by control states (24, 26 and 28) for changing the logical function of the gate structure. Redundancy is provided by gate structure implementations in which the number of possible control states exceed the number of logic functions expected of the gate structure. Redundancy increases the probability of gate structure operation despite logic faults and renders the gate structure suitable for reprogramming in response to detected faults to achieve a desired gate function. A number of embodiments are disclosed including selected architectural simplifications wherein certain nodes in a network are logically fixed to reduce the number of control lines. Illustrative computer programs for generating the proper control line signals for a selected gate function in such embodiments are disclosed.

摘要： An air inlet duct for an air-breathing combined-cycle aircraft engines is internally divided into separate channels for low-speed and high-speed components of the engine, and contains one or more movable panels that are fully contained within the duct and pivotal between an open position in which incoming air is directed to both channels and a closed position in which all incoming air is directed to the channel leading to the high-speed engine. This integrated duct utilizes all incoming air at all stages of flight with no change in either the geometry of the air capture portion of the engine or the engine itself, and no exposure of movable leading edges. The result is a minimum of shock waves and a high degree of efficiency in operation of the engine.

摘要： Nozzles that offer shape variability to maintain or purposely change the pressure drop across the throat are obtained by constructing th nozzles with components that change their shape, angle, or curvature in response to temperature changes that occur during the flow o combustion products through the nozzle. The temperature change may be the gradual heating of the nozzle wall from hot combustion gases, and the shape change may result in a decrease in the throat diameter or an expansion of the throat diameter. A decrease in throat diameter will be useful when the depletion of propellant as burning proceeds causes a drop in the pressure or flow rate of the combustion gas and there is a need to compensate for this drop to maintain the pressure drop across the throat.

摘要： Monofunctional polyfluorooxetan oligomers, polymers, and copolymers are prepared by the cationic polymerization of fluorooxeteane monomers with a monoalcohol. In addition to serving as an initiator, the monoalcohol can also serve as a solvent for the fluorooxetan or other monomers to produce oligomers, polymers, or copolymers having low cyclic content. Suitable comonomers generally include various cyclic ethers. The polyfluorooxetan oligomer, polymer, or copolymer having a single hydroxyl end group can be functionalized with a variety of compounds so as to yield a functional end group such as an acrylate, a methacrylate, an allylic, an amine, etc., with the functionalized oligomer or polymer being suitable for use in radiation curable or thermal curable coating compositions. These functionalized polymers can be copolymerized and cured to provide improvements in wetting and surface properties.
