摘要： A down-hole pneumatic rotary-percussion hammer drilling apparatus (100) is disclosed. The apparatus includes a drill string (14) for progressively extending into a hole (124) in the earth (81); an elongated housing (4) connected to the drill string; an impact drill bit (104), rotationally coupled to the housing (4), having an engaging surface (122), an earth impacting surface (128), a channel (121), and a plurality of conduits (140, 142) extending from about an exit of the channel to an exit portion (146, 148) of the conduits; a piston (24) within the housing for engaging the engaging surface (122), and a working fluid (82) handler for energizing the piston (24) with a working fluid. The impact drill bit (104) is rotatable about a longitudinal axis, with the channel (121) and the conduits (140, 142) providing a path of flow of the working fluid from the piston (24) to the exit portions (146, 148) of the conduits. The exit portions are displaced from the longitudinal axis (134) and extend generally downwardly and outwardly. The working fluid (32) emerges from the exit portions (146, 148) and effects rotation of the impact drill bit (104) about the longitudinal axis. Associated method and impact drill bit apparatus are also disclosed.

摘要： This is a method for the manufacture of hearing aid shells that is more accurate and faster than present techniques. The method involves the use of a specially adapted ultrasonic probe head to safely measure the contours of the ear canal without contact with the surface being measured. The recording of the data in the ear canal is made possible by filling the canal with a liquid and using an ear stopper, at the entrance to the ear, that incorporates a probe guiding tube to ensure that no extraneous movement occurs during the measurement process. The probe head can either be withdrawn from the ear canal by means of a motor to record the shape data or, alternatively, remained fixed relative to the ear, the scanning being accomplished by electrically recording the data from a series of fixed transducer rings located along the longitudinal axis of the probe. The three-dimensional shape data is then processed in a computer that produces a digital image STL file.

摘要： A method for machining a through bore (5) within a workpiece (W) and a device (10) for the implementation of the method. The method is suitable for finishing and semi-finishing machining operations of through bores and holes, in particular, tapping of internal threads, drilling, counter-boring, reaming, roll burnishing and piercing, etc. The method comprises imparting to the cutting tool (4) a linear motion accompanied by rotation thereof about the bore (5) axis and imparting to the tool auxiliary motion which is associated with the propelling thereof to an initial position after completing each stroke. Propelling of the tool is carried outside the bore (5) through a duct (14) between the bore (5) exit and entrance. Since friction associated with linear backward motion of the tool (4) through the bore (5) is avoided it is possible to reduce wear of the cutting tool (4) to improve tool life and to increase productivity of machining.

摘要： A catheter (10) includes a plurality of primary leads (30) to deliver energy for ligating a hollow anatomical structure (52). Each of the primary leads (30) includes an electrode (34) located at the working end (15) of the catheter (10). Separation is maintained between the primary leads (30) such that each primary lead (30) can individually receive power of selected polarity. The primary leads (30) are constructed to expand outwardly to place the electrodes (34) into apposition with a hollow anatomical structure (52). High frequency energy can be applied from the leads (30) to create a heating effect in the surrounding tissue of the anatomical structure (52). The diameter of the hollow anatomical structure (52) is reduced by the heating effect, and the electrodes (34) of the primary leads (30) are moved closer to one another. Where the hollow anatomical structure is a vein (52), energy is applied until the diameter of the vein (52) is reduced to the point where the vein (52) is occluded. In one embodiment, a balloon (64) is inflated to occlude the structure before the application of energy. Where the structure is a vein (52), the inflated balloon (64) obstructs blood flow and facilitates the infusion of saline, medication, or a high-impedance fluid to the vein (52) in order to reduce the occurrence of coagulation and to improve the heating of the vein by the catheter (10). The catheter (10) can include a lumen (49) to accommodate a guide wire (53) or to allow fluid delivery.

摘要： A method for determining the sensitivity of at least one nonparaffinophilic microorganism from a specimen obtained from a patient to different antimicrobial agents, and predetermined quantities thereof. The method includes providing at least one receptacle containing an aqueous solution and adjusting the solution to mimic the in vivo clinical conditions of said patient. The method further includes inoculating the solution with the specimen and placing into the receptacle (i) a slide coated with a carbon source and (ii) a predetermined quantity of an antimicrobial agent to be tested. By observing the nonparaffinophilic microorganism growth or lack thereof on the slide, it can be determined whether the predetermined quantity of the antimicrobial agent is effective in inhibiting growth of the nonparaffinophilic microorganism on the slide.
