摘要： A system and method for uniformly coating one or more fibers (10) with particles of a material is described. The method uses a vibrator preferably an acoustic speaker (17b) in a housing (17c) to fluidize the particles (P1) in a chamber (17 or 30) to deposit them on spread fibers (10b). The fibers can be in the form of a tow of fibers. After the particles are coated on the fibers, the particles can be bonded to the fiber such as by using a heater (19). The resulting product has a uniform deposit of the particles and in the case of the tow of fibers can serve as a prepreg for laminate structures to be produced from the coated tow of fibers.

摘要： A plasma apparatus which generates a radio frequency (UHF or microwave) disk plasma 16 and a hybrid plasma 45 derived from the disk plasma. The microwave plasma acts as a source of excited ion and free radical species and electrons for the second plasma which is hybrid in that it contains species from both microwave and dc (or rf depending on bias) excitation. The hybrid plasma can be used to treat an article 43 with different species than are present in the disk plasma and provides more control in this regard than a single plasma.

摘要： A highly efficient process for the production and recovery of pure succinic acid from a succinate salt that involves minimal use of additional reagents, and produces virtually no waste by-products, and permit s internal recycle of the base and acid values, is provided. The method involves the formation of diammonium succinate, either by using an ammonium ion based material to maintain neutral 8 pH in the fermenter or by substituting the ammonium cation for the cation of the succinate salt created in the fermenter. The diammonium succinate can then be reacted with a sulfate ion, such as by combining the diammonium succinate with ammonium bisulfate and/or sulfuric acid at sufficiently low pH to yield succinic acid and ammonium sulfate. The ammoniu m sulfate is advantageously cracked thermally into ammonia and ammonium bisulfate. The succinic acid can be purified with a methanol dissolution step. Various filtration, reflux and reutilization steps can also be employed.

摘要： A method for the preparation of new semi-crystalline, porous inorganic oxide compositions possessing uniform framework-confined mesopores in the range 2.0-10.0 nm. The method uses an interaction between various nonionic polyethylene oxide based surfactants (N DEG ) and neutral inorganic oxide precursors (I &squ& ) at ambient reaction temperatures. The materials formed exhibit a disordered assembly of worm-like channels of regular diameter owing to the specific mechanism of self-assembly, producing highly stable materials and particles incorporating large numbers of the channels. This (N DEG I DEG ) templating approach introduces several new concepts to mesostructure synthesis. The application of the low-cost, non-toxic and biodegradable surfactants and ambient reaction temperatures, introduces environmentally clean synthetic techniques to the formation of mesostructures. Recovery of the template can be achieved through solvent extraction where the solvent may be water or ethanol.
