    • An exhaust gas purification apparatus 10 includes an engine 20, a manifold 22 connected to the engine 20 and through which exhaust gas generated by burning fuel flows, and a casing 26 connected to the manifold 22 and holding a honeycomb filter 30 with a catalyst carried thereon, and is mounted on a vehicle. In the exhaust gas purification apparatus 10, the honeycomb filter 30 is disposed in a position such that the length of an exhaust gas route between the uppermost upstream portion of the manifold 22 through which exhaust gas flows and the head portion of the honeycomb filter 30 is 1 m or less. The honeycomb filter 30 has a porosity of 70% or more. It is formed by laminating plate-like members provided with a plurality of through holes in a longitudinal direction in such a manner in which the through holes are communicated with each other. Alternate end faces of the communicated through holes are sealed. The honeycomb filter 30 may be formed of an inorganic fiber (ceramic fiber and metal fiber) and/or an inorganic foam (ceramic foam and metal foam).
