    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dual spray injection nozzle related to a nozzle structure of a fuel injector for an internal combustion engine.
      SOLUTION: The fuel injector for an internal combustion engine has a nozzle body (3) that is provided with a nozzle bore (7), and an outer valve needle (25) that is slidably located within the nozzle bore (7). The outer valve needle (25) is engageable fluidtightly with a valve seat (9) provided on an internal surface of the nozzle bore (7), in order to control fuel delivery through at least one upper spray hole (11) that is located through the wall of the nozzle body (3). The upper spray hole has a hole entry (13) located on an internal surface of the nozzle body (3), and a hole exit (15) located on an external surface of the nozzle body (3). The outer valve needle (25) is provided with a bore (31) within which an inner valve needle (37) is slidably located. The tip (39) of the inner valve needle (37) is engageable fluidtightly with the valve seat (9) in order to control fuel delivery through at least one axial spray hole (19) that is aligned substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the injector nozzle.

      SOLUTION: A voltage is controlled according to a voltage/charge pair time profile, in a control method for an injector piezoelectric actuator for controlling a fuel amount injected into a cylinder. High current drive is executed up to a level required for staring the injection, then low current drive is carried out, and a low gradient of a voltage/charge pair time is generated until completely charged. The fluctuation in the minimum distribution pulse is reduced compared with conventional constitution with a constant gradient, and a gradient of a gain curve is reduced. Alternatively, the high current drive is executed up to a level required for amplification-switching a liquid pressure lift amount. A voltage/charge is held, or even a zero current phase or a negative current phase may be introduced between the two current phase, in alterative constitution. A charge applied to the actuator is controlled by a fluctuating voltage drop, or the voltage may be directly controlled.
