摘要： An interface between a protected computer or computer network (52) and the World Wide Web (WWW) (68). The interface comprises a split proxy system (56, 66) that encapsulates TCP/IP transmissions into a script transmission which is not subject to problems in high latency systems, thereby greatly improving WWW access, via a wireless modem or other low-bandwidth communications network. The split proxy interface (56, 66) also provides compression, encryption and filtering capabilities and allows receipt of unsolicited transmissions from the service provider for such purposes as automatically updating or configuring WWW access software.

摘要： A personal communications internetworking (40) provides a network subscriber with the ability to remotely control the receipt and delivery of wireless and wireline voice and text messages. The network operates as an interface between various wireless (39) and wireline (29) networks, and also performs media translation, where necessary. The subscriber's message receipt and delivery options are maintained in a database which the subscriber may access by wireless or wireline communications to update the options programmed in the database. This may be done by the RP measuring the signal level on each of the available channels and then setting the interference threshold and/or power level according to these measurements. In a preferred method (600), the interference threshold is determined by measuring the signal level on each channel (604), ranking the channels in order of measured signal level, and using these rankings to determined the threshold (606). The transmission power level may be set with reference to the adaptive interference threshold level. This level is determined by using the system and FCC power limitations and current conditions to provide a satisfactory transmission level.

The ferroelectric stack includes a ferroelectric layer (50), such as PbNbZrTiO, sandwiched between conductive metal-oxide electrodes (46, 52), such as the perovskite LaSrCoO. The ferroelectric stack is grown over a barrier layer (44) of an intermetallic alloy such as Ni.sub.3Al or Ti.sub.3Al, which is highly resistant to oxidation at elevated temperatures. The intermetallic layer is either deposited directly over the silicon substrate (40) or over an intermediate TiN layer (42). The resulting structure does not require a platinum barrier layer.
