摘要： Foot pedals for motor vehicles are rendered non slip by covering with leather which has been impregnated with an oily liquid consisting mainly of paraffinic hydrocarbons and sulphated hydrocarbons. The impregnating liquid pref. contains 75-90% of paraffinic hydrocarbons and 10-25% of sulphated hydrocarbons. A small amount of a saponifiable oil esp. sopra oil is opt. included. The non slip properties are as effective in the wet as in the dry.

A flange d forms a rest for the side of the driver's boot.

Pedals and pedal-levers, mounting. - A pedalmounting for controlling the accelerator lever of a motor-vehicle comprises a base-plate 1 fixed to the floor and having an upstanding flange 1 to which is pivoted a plate adapted to fit the driver's shoe. The sole of the shoe rests on the circular front end of the footplate which contacts with the accelerator lever 4 , while the heel rests on a depressed portion 3 provided with a rear projection 3 . The heel of a ladv's shoe fits into a recess 3 in the plate 3. The shank 4 of the footplate is made narrow to avoid fouling the brake lever, and is positioned so as to be clear of the instep of the shoe. The front end of the footplate comprises a metal contact-plate, 5 covered by a plate 5a of non-conducting material and faced by a non-slipping surface 5b such as rubber. An adjustable stop 6 limits the depression of the heel .end of the footplate.

Steering.-A non-slip pad or stud, applicable to pedals for controlling aeroplanes, comprises a pad of rubber or the like a having a bolt b with a flattened head c sunk in it, the bolt shank projecting a sufficient distance to allow it to be passed through a hole in the pedal head e and to be secured by a nut at the back of the pedal head. Instead of bolts, as shown in Figs. 2 and 5, one or more bifurcated rivets may be employed. A strip of canvas i may be incorporated in the rubber between the head c and the base of the pad. The pads may be provided with internal air chambers.
