    • An energy absorbing system for cushioning a row of interconnected passenger seats within a vehicle upon the application of an impact force to the vehicle. The system comprising a plurality of vehicle seats arranged in tandem and mounted on a guideway means for slidable movement longitudinally within the vehicle and a spring operated, energy absorbing device mounted within the vehicle and attached to the seat row. The guideway means includes a pair of parallel guide rails upon which the row of seats are mounted with the guide rails positioned flush with the floor of the vehicle or below the floor. The energy absorbing device connected directly to the row of seats is fixedly attached to the vehicle and includes a plurality of compression springs and a thrust plate mounted within a boxlike receptacle. The springs, having different lengths and/or spring constants, are mounted on each side of the thrust plate means to attentuate the movement of the seats in either a fore or aft direction with respect to said vehicle. A rebound dampener assembly is mounted on said receptacle in conjunction with the thrust plate means to allow the seats to move in the opposite direction upon impact and restrict movement in the opposite direction to prevent sudden rebound.

    • An adjustable seat assembly for a vehicle comprises a pair of spaced-apart parallel support tubes which are mounted on the vehicle by means of a support bracket. Seat attachment means are provided and include a seat attachment plate and a pair of seat tubes which are slidably or telescopically engageable with the front ends of the tubes. A U-shaped torsion bar has two reversely-curved ends which are slidably or telescopically engageable with the rear ends of the seat tubes. Means are provided for bolting a seat to an attachment plate underlying the U-shaped end of the torsion bar so as to entrap the U-shaped end of the torsion bar therebetween. The seat, seat attachment means and torsion bar are slidable as a unit longitudinally with respect to the support tubes to desired positions. A springbiased notched locking bar is pivotably connected to the attachment means and any one of its notches can engage the edge of slot in the tube support bracket to lock the seat in a desired position.

    • The control device comprises a motor (5) having a shaft (7a) provided at one end with a worm (8a) to drive a nut-wheel (9a), the set of the worm (8a) and of the nut-wheel (9a) forming part of a reduction gear (R). A screw (12a) cooperates with the nut (11a). This screw (12a) is fixed in rotation around its axis. The reduction gear (R) comprises a stirrup (26a) comprising two intersecting cylindrical sleeves (30a, 31a) communicating through an opening (W). One (30a) of these sleeves receives the nut-wheel (9a). The worm (8a) is accommodated in a tube (10a), connected to the casing (6) of the motor (5), which comprises a window (32a) on its cylindrical wall at one end intended to be engaged in the other sleeve. For the assembly of the reduction gear, the above mentioned end of the tube (10a) is fitted in the other sleeve (31a) of the stirrup (26a) so that the above mentioned window should come to be opposite the above mentioned opening (W). The threads of the worm (8a) project through the said window (32a) to mesh with the nut-wheel (9a).

    • A plurality of slide assisting units are operatively disposed between stationary and movable rails in order to smooth movement of the movable rail relative to the stationary rail. A projected structure is connected with a terminal one of the slide assisting units. The projected structure extends in a certain direction beyond the terminal unit in order that when the movable rail is subjected to a force which acts in a direction essentially normal to the certain direction, the projected structure interconnects the movable and stationary rails in a manner to reduce the length of the movable rail over which the force can act to produce a moment of force which tends to bend the movable rail away from the stationary rail.

    • An anchor fitting has flat surfaced pads with shoulders extending therefrom and a post portion extending along an axis substantially normal to the flat surfaces of the pads. A fastening device is provided on the post for anchoring a load to a track on which the fitting is removably mounted. The device further includes a screw adjustable plunger and clamp member which can be adjustably positioned by the screw along an axis substantially normal to the flat surfaces of the pads. The fitting is removably retained in a selected position along a slotted track, having a plurality of notched portions separated by narrow neck portions formed by flanges, with the shoulders of the pads and the track slots underneath the flanges and with the plunger lowered by the screw so that it is seated in one of the notched portions of the track with a clamping shoulder portion of the plunger-clamp unit in tight engagement with the top surface of the track. This provides a tight, rattle-proof joinder between the fitting and the track.
