摘要： A shoe includes an instep which is joined to a bottom layer by an intermediate layer which is bonded between the instep and the bottom layer. The intermediate layer is advantageously applied in a liquid form after first positioning the bottom layer at the bottom of a mold and positioning the instep so that its lower inturned edges project into the mold. The liquid in the form of a synthetic plastic is permitted to fill the space between the bottom layer and the instep and to be cooled and become bound to these parts. In one embodiment, the bottom layer is advantageously made of an upper and lower superposed layer part with the upper layer having at least one through opening to permit the flow of the intermediate bonding layer therethrough and securement to a recess of the lower part of the bottom layer. In one form the shoe includes a bottom layer made up of upper and lower parts which are joined together by the bonding layer which flows through openings in the upper part into receiving recesses or bores of the lower part. The lower part may advantageously includes a bottom having corrugations or projections and which either includes recesses or receiving bores for the bonding material which extends therethrough.

摘要： An article of footwear has an upper that is direct attached with the sole in a article of footwear mold. The sole has a film extending up sidewalls of the sole to a film edge that is prior to the sidewall and the upper joining. Method of manufacture of the article of footwear includes steps of positioning a film over a mold cavity and then securing the film to the mold. The film is heated and then drawn into the mold cavity under a vacuum. The film forms a liner of the mold cavity. A foam composition is injected into the lined mold cavity. As the foam composition expands, the foam composition interacts with and mechanically engages with the upper that is poisoned at the mold cavity to allow for the mechanical engagement that results in the direct attach of the sole to the upper.

The welt terminates short of the heel region of the footwear. In one embodiment, the outsole in the heel region is secured to a heel cradle which is further secured the upper. The footwear provides the durability of a welt construction in the forward portion of the shoe and the comfort and cushion of an athletic construction in the heel region of the shoe. A method for constructing the footwear includes securing an outsole to an upper with a welt in a forefoot and/or arch region of the shoe but not the heel region of the shoe. Optionally, a heel cradle is disposed in the heel region of the shoe and the outsole is secured to the heel cradle and/or upper in the heel region.

The vulcanizate may be suitably manufactured from an assembly of an uncured rubber upper insole, welt and a vulcanized midsole. The inner and outer surfaces of the midsole may be suitably roughened, and the surface thereof which interfaces the uncured assembly may be precoated with an uncured rubber. The assembled uncured rubber footwear components may be vulcanized into a footwear product of unitary construction. The outer midsole surface permits a wide variety of outer soles of different compositions to be separately secured thereto.
