    • A readily portable hydraulic power source for supplying hydraulic fluid pressure to emergency hydraulic tools is foot-operated such that the operator's hands are left free to use the hydraulic tools and both the tools and power source may be operated by a single person. The power source includes a generally planar base member, a hydraulic pump fixedly mounted at one end of the base member, a foot-engaging planar member in generally overlying relation to the base member, a hinge connecting ends of the base member and the planar member for movement of the planar member relative to the base, and a resilient spring between the base and planar members to urge the members pivotally apart upon release of pressure from the operator's foot. The operator's foot is retained by straps and a heel retaining portion attached to the planar member, with the heel portion having an arm operatively connected to a hydraulic piston of the pump. Fluid conduits are provided from the hydraulic pump for connection to an emergency tool and from a hydraulic fluid reservoir, which is strapable about the operator's torso, to supply fluid to the hydraulic pump.

    • Air operated hydraulic pump apparatus disclosed is particularly adaptable for use with tilting cab control systems. Reciprocation of a pump plunger to pump control liquid from a reservoir is achieved by a spring biased piston slidable within a cylinder bore and alternately moved in opposite directions by the spring bias and compressed air. A valve of the apparatus has a first position where it supplies compressed air to a first chamber of the cylinder bore so as to act against the spring bias and move the piston in one direction. The spring providing the bias is received within a second chamber of the cylinder bore and moves the piston in the opposite direction when the valve is moved to a second position that terminates the supply of compressed air to the first chamber and exhausts the first chamber to the environment. After movement of the piston for a predetermined extent against the bias of the spring, a first actuator moves the valve from the first position thereof to the second position and then allows the spring to act and return the piston. A second actuator on the piston engages the valve upon the return piston movement and moves the valve from the second position back to the first position so that the first chamber is again isolated from the environment and subsequently fed compressed air that begins another cycle. A manual pump is used in addition to the air operated pump and both pumps feed a control valve for directing the flow of pumped liquid from the reservoir.

    • The invention is concerned with an improvement in a motor-pump assembly for operating a hydraulic implement, said assembly including a hydraulic pump for controlling flow of a hydraulic fluid to said hydraulic implement and an electric motor for driving said pump. The improvement comprises means for coaxially aligning a driving shaft of the motor with the driven shaft of the pump, means for directly drivingly engaging said driving shaft with said driven shaft and means for fixing said pump to said motor. The invention is particularly concerned with the case wherein said hydraulic implement comprises a hydraulic lift cylinder for adjusting the height of a fork carrying carriage of a lift truck, controlling the tilt of the lift truck mast and controlling power steering functions.

    • A rotary hydraulic actuator adapted to be mounted as on the stationary kingpin fixed on the deck of a self-unloading bulk cargo ship for slewing of a conveyor boom having its foot pivotally connected to oppositely extending horizontal trunnions on the actuator, said actuator being characterized by its unitized construction in which the gear housing is journalled on a gear keyed on said kingpin and which has pairs of parallel cylinders extending in opposite directions from the gear housing for actuating gear racks which mesh with said gear. Said actuator is further characterized in that extending longitudinally in opposite directions from the gear housing between the respective pairs of cylinders is a hydraulic oil tank and a weatherproof power pack assembly (or hydraulic actuating system) operatively connected with the tank and including a hydraulic pump and drive motor therefor and valves to control flow of fluid under pressure to selected cylinders for rotation of said actuator in desired boom-slewing direction.For a large size actuator of the character indicated, the complete assembly is of such great length and width as not to be transportable by truck or rail from the manufacturer's plant to the shipyard or other location and hence, in the unitized construction herein only the trunnion mountings are detached for shipping purposes without disturbing the hydraulic system components and piping whereby the remaining unitized structure, while of relatively great length, is then sufficiently narrow so as to be conveniently shippable to the shipyard or other location by rail or truck whereat the trunnion mountings may be bolted in place and seal-welded to opposite sides of the gear housing without disturbing the hydraulic system.
