摘要： A method for mitigating initiation or propagation of a crack in a surface of a metal component in a boiling water reactor. The method includes the step of injecting a solution or suspension of a pH-adjusting compound into the bulk water of the reactor. The compound has the property of changing the pH of high-temperature water inside the crack from a value outside a predetermined pH range (namely, pH 6.0 to 8.0) to a value within the predetermined pH range without causing any significant change of the bulk water pH. The growth rate of the crack when the crack pH is outside the predetermined pH range is greater than the growth rate of the crack when the crack pH is within the predetermined pH range.

摘要： A method for improving the performance and longevity of coatings of metal deposited from aqueous solutions of inorganic, organic or oraganometallic metal compounds. The method involves co-deposition of noble metal or corrosion-inhibiting non-noble metal during growth of oxide film on a component made of alloy, e.g., stainless steels and nickel-based alloys. The result is a metal-doped oxide film having a relatively longer life in the reactor operating environment. In particular, incorporation of palladium into the film provides greatly increased catalytic life as compared to palladium coatings which lie on the oxide surface.

摘要： A solution or suspension for reducing corrosion of stainless steel components in a water-cooled nuclear reactor. A compound containing a platinum group metal, e.g., palladium, is dissolved in an ethanol/water mixture or suspended in water. The resulting solution or suspension is injected into the water of the reactor. This compound has the property that it decomposes under reactor thermal conditions to release ions/atoms of the platinum group metal which incorporate in or deposit on the oxide film formed on the stainless steel reactor components. The compound may be organic, organometallic (e.g., palladium acetylacetonate) or inorganic in nature.

摘要： A shutdown system for a high temperature nuclear reactor where absorber material elements in the form of balls pass from an elevated reservoir into a vertical channel formed by aligned vertical cavities in horizontal, nose-shaped projections from the side reflector. The balls are transported back to the reservoir by way of a conveyor device. It must be insured that even in the case of accidents the absorber balls arrive in the cavities and that a rapid return of the absorber balls into the reservoir takes place. For the purpose, the reservoir is provided with an automatically-actuated and controllable device for releasing an opening between the reservoir and the vertical channel feed line. Below the channel is a removal tube terminating in a housing and arranged to form a pile of the absorber balls which seals the removal tube. To return the absorber balls, a metering gas acts on the pile and brings the absorber balls to a carrier gas. The carrier gas returns the absorber balls into the reservoir while the gaseous proporation of the carrier gas flow is returned for the reservoir into the pressure vessel.

The methods include identifying the structure, taking the structure out of operational service, contacting the structure with an aqueous solution (e.g., a recirculating flow or static immersion), and adding an effective amount of elemental metal in solid form to the aqueous solution.
