    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly determine a correction action to be executed in a diagnosable system.
      SOLUTION: A failure mode reasoning engine (FMRE) waits an evidence notification (420), determines a plurality of evidentiary-failure-mode-probability rectangles (EFMPRs) (430), based on the evidence notification, when receiving the evidence notification, and determines a candidate EFMPR out of the plurality of EFMPRs (440). The candidate EFMPR (EFMPR R
      CRFM ) is determined based on a distance from an origin of an evidentiary-failure-mode-probability graph. Then, an overlapped area OA is determined between the candidate EFMPR and the other EFMPRs in the plurality of EFMPRs (450), and the overlap area is compared with an overlapped threshold OT (470). A reasonable failure mode (i.e., correct diagnosis) and/or a reasonable correction action for the diagnosable system is determined based on the candidate EFMPR (480), when the overlapped area is less than the overlapped threshold, the reasonable correction action is reported (482), and the reasonable correction action is adopted (490).
