    • An approach is provided expand queries processed by a question/answer (QA) system. In the approach, concepts are extracted from documents using natural language processing to identify the concepts included in passages found in the documents. The approach generates child level categories in a category hierarchy from the concepts and groups the child level categories into sets based on related concepts. The process creates parent categories from the sets and divides a corpus used by the QA system into a number of sub-corpora, with each of the sub-corpora corresponding to one of the child level categories. The approach answers questions posed to the QA system by identifying a child level category related to the question and searching the sub-corpora corresponding to the child level category.

    • A method of performing a context based search associated with a digital document may include determining a contextual keyword associated with the digital document. The contextual keyword may be determined based on one or more of content included in the digital document and information associated with the digital document. Additionally, the contextual keyword may provide context to use of a term in the digital document such that the contextual keyword may indicate a meaning of the term as the term is used in the digital document. The method may further include initiating a context based search of a general information database using the term and the contextual keyword such that a result of the context based search may indicate the meaning of the term as the term is used in the digital document.

    • A method, computer-readable medium, and system for ranking data are disclosed. Where a semantic key is associated with a search query, a plurality of semantic sub-keys associated with the semantic key may be determined. Each semantic sub-key of the plurality of semantic sub-keys may be associated with at least one respective attribute. At least one semantic sub-key of the plurality of semantic sub-keys may be determined, where the at least one semantic sub-key is associated with an attribute matching a portion of the search query. At least one document associated with the at least one semantic sub-key may be ranked above at least one other document associated with at least one other semantic sub-key of the plurality of semantic sub-keys. As such, ranking of documents associated with search results may be improved by utilizing attributes of semantic sub-keys.

    • The invention relates to data searching and translation. In particular, the invention relates to searching documents from the Internet or databases. Even further, the invention also relates to translating words in documents, WebPages, images or speech from one language to the next. A computer implemented method including at least one computer in accordance with the invention is characterised by the following steps: receiving a search query including at least one search term, deriving at least one synonym for at least one search term, expanding the received search query with the at least one synonym, searching at least one document using the expanded search query, retrieving the search results obtained with the expanded query, ranking the search results based on context of occurrence of at least one search term. The best mode of the invention is considered to be an Internet search engine that delivers better search results.
