    • A process unit which can be removably mounted in a main assembly of an electrostatographic copying machine has a housing enclosing an imaging member and, optionally, other processing means such as a development device, a cleaner, and a charge corotron. The transfer corotron, for transferring a toner image from the photoreceptor to a copy sheet is preferably incorporated in the cassette housing. An aperture is present in the housing adjacent corotron so that a copy sheet can enter the unit to have an image transferred thereto from the photoreceptor. A simple resilient cover flap is provided over the aperture which protects the imaging member from contamination, physical damage, and light exposure when the cassette is removed from the main assembly of the copier. The flap is readily displaced as an entering copy sheet bears against it, thus enabling a copy sheet to pass. As the trail edge of the copy sheet leaves the aperture the resilient flap reverts to its former position in which it closes the aperture until the arrival of a subsequent copy sheet. Instead of a resilient flap the cover may be formed by a brush.

    • A belt support structure which telescopically movably supports a belt assembly in a photoelectrostatic copying machine. The belt support structure has first guide rails secured at at least two spaced points thereof to a wall or framework of the housing structure for the copying machine, second guide rails respectively telescopically movably mounted on the first guide rails and third guide rails telescopically mounted on the second guide rails. The third guide rails carry the belt assembly for pivotal movement between operative and released positions. When the belt assembly is in the released position outside the housing structure, replacement of the used photoreceptor belt, inspection, repair or cleaning of all operating elements of the copying machine arranged around the photoreceptor within the housing structure can be facilitated.

    • A photosensitive belt replacing apparatus of an electrophotographic printer. The disclosed photosensitive belt replacing apparatus includes: a main cartridge receiving the photosensitive belt to be replaced and installed as a continuous loop belt, and allowing the received photosensitive belt to be installed in the belt unit by being moved into an installation position of the photosensitive belt within the printer while hanging on and sliding along the insertion rails provided at the belt unit; a belt separating mechanism installed at the belt unit, and binding the photosensitive belt to the belt unit by applying a tight tension to the photosensitive belt of the main cartridge moved into the installation position and therefore allowing the photosensitive belt to remain installed in the belt unit when the main cartridge is removed from the installation position; a belt cutting mechanism installed in the printer for cutting the photosensitive belt which has been installed in the belt unit as a continuous loop belt and has been used so that the photosensitive belt can be removed; and a belt recovering mechanism for winding the photosensitive belt cut by the belt cutting mechanism and removing the photosensitive belt from the belt unit. With the photosensitive belt replacing apparatus, since the operation of replacing a photosensitive belt is nearly automatically performed, the operation can be very conveniently performed in a relatively short time, and therefore the photosensitive belt always can be installed at an exact position.

    • A photoreceptor web installation/removing apparatus of a printer includes a roller unit installed in a main body of the printer and having a frame for supporting both ends of a support roller that supports a photoreceptor web. The installation/removing apparatus further includes a pair of mobile brackets, installed on the frame, for supporting both ends of a tension roller. A belt installation cartridge accommodates a new photoreceptor web to be installed on the roller unit and is capable of being inserted in the main body of the printer to encompass the roller unit. A belt removing cartridge removes the photoreceptor web installed on the roller unit and is capable of being inserted in the main body of the printer. A locking/releasing device selectively locks to and releases from the roller unit, the belt installation cartridge or the belt removing cartridge when inserted in the main body of the printer. A recognition device recognizes the type of belt cartridge inserted in the main body of the printer.

    • An electrostatographic process cartridge detachably mountable into a cavity defined by mated modules forming parts of an electrostatographic reproduction machine having a copy-volume capacity limited by a waste toner sump capacity. The process cartridge includes an elongate housing having walls defining a process chamber; and a rotatable endless photoreceptive member mounted within the process chamber and to the housing. The photoreceptive member has an image bearing surface for holding a formed toner image, a conductive layer, and a closed loop path within the process chamber. The process cartridge also includes a high voltage electrostatographic charging device mounted to the elongate frame and along the closed loop path for applying a layer of electrostatic charge to the image bearing surface of the photoreceptive member; means for forming on, and transferring from, the image bearing surface, a toner image; and means for transferring the formed toner image onto a substrate. Importantly, the process cartridge includes a non-metallic electrically conductive grounding pin mounted to the frame and in contact with the photoreceptive member for aligning and grounding the photoreceptive member, so as to prevent photoreceptive member discharge current from passing to an adjacent machine imager module forming latent images on the charged image bearing surface.
